The knicks have a clean slate. No financial obligations. All our picks. Plus some more. I’ve never seen this before from the knicks.
This is what I meant about kp not fitting our timeline. A financial obligation with absolutely nothing to surround him with and little flexibility. The rebuild starts now. Right now. This is a slow process. You’re talking like four years.
If you’re expecting instant gratification you’re going to be disappointed. We’re not even constructed to compliment kyrie and kd. We have a glut of points and wings.
For myself personally I’m getting a little tired. I’ve been watching bad knicks basketball longer than good now. It’s gotten to the point that I’m not sure why I’m wasting my time. I have other more productive things to do than waste time on a non entertaining product.
But these guys are actually setting up to start from the ground up. Which just has never happened. And there’s been many times I wish we would. It’s that hook to keep you in.

Yup. And while the trade could bite in the ass, KP solves his training issues, his head, and playing with Donic totally unlocks him (we know he'll benefit, at least), it got kicked around this forum quite a bit the idea that KP was coming up on getting resigned, and he'd be due, and would expect, the max a player his age could get. And then there were some pretty rational discussions about whether he was really a max cat young guy, or the kind of guy that might be somewhat overpaid in the 2nd banana slot.
Before anyone jumps in with "lots of teams have two guys maxed and one is the #2 player", yeah, I get that. Even assuming zero injury concerns, there were some questions around it. Again, have to sort out the facts from the spin, but if KP couldn't handle not getting an extension earlier, couldn't handle waiting until AFTER a max FA was explored this offseason, while he was sitting out the whole year (1.5 years actually), then it was just time to cut bait.
I think the timelines matched close enough, but not exactly, and between "franchise guy" questions, injury questions, and attitude towards being smart about building the team, there it went. Traded.
