kane2021 wrote:Signing kd and kyrie don’t got to be the ticket. We could take on a contract for a pick. More than once. We could sign reclamation projects. A desirable role player. And trade them later.

The knicks have a clean slate. No financial obligations. All our picks. Plus some more. I’ve never seen this before from the knicks.

This is what I meant about kp not fitting our timeline. A financial obligation with absolutely nothing to surround him with and little flexibility. The rebuild starts now. Right now. This is a slow process. You’re talking like four years.

If you’re expecting instant gratification you’re going to be disappointed. We’re not even constructed to compliment kyrie and kd. We have a glut of points and wings.

For myself personally I’m getting a little tired. I’ve been watching bad knicks basketball longer than good now. It’s gotten to the point that I’m not sure why I’m wasting my time. I have other more productive things to do than waste time on a non entertaining product.

But these guys are actually setting up to start from the ground up. Which just has never happened. And there’s been many times I wish we would. It’s that hook to keep you in.

Yup. And while the trade could bite in the ass, KP solves his training issues, his head, and playing with Donic totally unlocks him (we know he'll benefit, at least), it got kicked around this forum quite a bit the idea that KP was coming up on getting resigned, and he'd be due, and would expect, the max a player his age could get. And then there were some pretty rational discussions about whether he was really a max cat young guy, or the kind of guy that might be somewhat overpaid in the 2nd banana slot.

Before anyone jumps in with "lots of teams have two guys maxed and one is the #2 player", yeah, I get that. Even assuming zero injury concerns, there were some questions around it. Again, have to sort out the facts from the spin, but if KP couldn't handle not getting an extension earlier, couldn't handle waiting until AFTER a max FA was explored this offseason, while he was sitting out the whole year (1.5 years actually), then it was just time to cut bait.
I think the timelines matched close enough, but not exactly, and between "franchise guy" questions, injury questions, and attitude towards being smart about building the team, there it went. Traded.

We asked: do you want to bring kyrie/preimiter player or play with KP?

he said he doesnt care if KP is here as long as he has kyrie or another high lvl perimeter player.

First things 1st, Who are the Knicks drafting?

If #1, Zion.

After that, considering 2-6 are all basically tallish SG's, maybe swing SG/SF, except for a couple of PG's who might get in there (one will), it has to be a SG. Just what flavor. RJ-Cam-Culver-Romeo.

So dependent on back channel promises by Kyrie and if they think they would pivot from Kyrie and take a player like Middleton for 4 year run with Durant. (He doesn't leave the Bucks)

Legit being serious, I wish Melo would resign for the rest of the year to prove himself, sell a few tickets, help the tank if he does indeed suck.

Mill should be there but, I expect he'll follow Perry's lead. The dumb moves stopped the moment he got here and even seemed get him to except that his pet Timmy had to go. Perry is a quiet assassin......love how this move never got leaked.

knicks - 74 mill
clippers - 61 mill
kings - 58 mill

hawks - 53 mill

the biggest threat is the clippers. but the west is tough as hell and they can't even fit the max of durant and someone else. does durant leave the warriors to join the clippers anyway ? nah. those other teams have even less money and nobody is going to those places.

I don't think the Clips are as much as there as people think. With LB in La, the Clipper REALLY become 2nd fiddle especially media wise. I wonder how many players want to compete with him for Dominance of the Staples Center. If anyone will have to settle for a Tobias Harris type players, it them imo

False. Perry just cleaned up this franchise in one year. That was almost an impossible task and he did it. We have a legit GM now that stars will take seriously. So, no, the franchise is not a joke any longer. You have to get your house in order to attract talent. We've done that.

Melo brings too much unwanted attention as well.

Perry isn't gonna want Melo getting in these young guys ears either. His time here is over unless they want to celebrate him down the road.

god shammgod wrote:look, nobody knows. but if someone wanted to play in a big market and team up with another star they have 3 options. us, the nets, the clippers. none of those teams have any great pieces besides the cap space (our pick could change that), so it's really about where is the best place to play. the clippers and nets will always be 2nd franchises in cities and not nearly as popular. you might say, why would they join a team with no great pieces ? because just like lebron & wade thought, these guys have the confidence that give them 1 or 2 other great players and they can win it all. all the ring chasers will show up to wherever they team up anyway.

or everyone could just stay where they are. but if you were to leave, you're not leaving to become a net. and you're probably not leaving to play on l.a's 2nd team while lebron is playing for the 1st one. you'll get more attention playing here then anywhere else.

We've been using that "why come to NY" sales pitch for 2 decades now, and it's never worked. I don't know, maybe this time it does. We'll see.

The one pitch we've never used is "come to NY because we're actually good". I have a feeling this one would work better.

Why do you only have a Yankees symbol up under your name? Is it because that's your only NY team you like or is it because they're the only NY teams that's winning these days or are you just not a fan of any other NY team? Just wondering.

the key to getting durant is probably him, or us, convincing someone to join him who's good enough. other than that it will probably fail. don't think i'm convinced this is happening. i'm not. but if he were to leave, where is he going if not here ? strangely enough, we would seem to be option 2 after staying put.

He can go to the Lakers to play with Lebron. I mean Kyrie said he missed playing with him too. Maybe they all end up there again.

It wouldn't be the first time NY got it's hopes up, only to watch everyone go somewhere else.

he did specifically say teaming up with lebron would be toxic. kyrie could go there though. that seems very possible.

Yeah i've been saying that i think they trade for AD and sign Kyrie in the offseason.

Where is this from?

Yeah... if you look @ the youtube vid that DowNY posted, you'll hear the Amin conversation. More or less, the feeling is that the Knicks have spoken to KD's Business Mgr and there's a wink wink handshake deal in place that has KD coming to Gotham. Adding more intrigue is that apparantly there may be some sort of handshake deal with Kleiman getting a FO deal with NY (all speculation/rumor). Then there's Royal Ivey, a long time close friend of KD's. And there's also DJordan, another good friend... Speculation? Rumor? Coincidence? These questions and more will be answered on July 1. :) WHAT A LOOONNNGGGG WAIT. lol

yeah but, Jackson was FALLING asleep during his meeting with free agent and by all reports his idea of wooing free agents was to take the lunch. Not Dinner.....no groups of stars or power brokers to impress, no Melo along with him to help woo free agents. His god damned Ego was so overgrown that he thought his Name alone would be enough.

Return to New York Knicks
