The Fournier contract reminds me of the Tim Hardaway contract. We paid more than he would have gotten elsewhere and don't know how to use him. We may end up asking another team to take him on - at a cost - and then he may play up to his contract elsewhere. 17 million is an overpay for Fournier, but he has the skill set and competitive drive to earn it; he's just not doing that here in this system at current.

I know it’s at least 1 season early but it’s surprising that nobody is questioning Thibs coaching? Yeah he won COTY but it should have been Monty Williams. Playing guys 40+ minutes a game to eek out regular season wins isn’t some higher level of coaching. Could a more balanced coach get more of this team? We won’t find out until at least next year.

Many people put the blame on the players but the coach and the FO are the first to blame. Thibs after years in the league is still stubborn. He can't figure a proper offensive system and as a result it's always so predictable. Why would you hire a backcourt of Kemba+Fournier when your main focus as a coach is the defensive end? I have seen Fournier plays for years, he just doesn't fit the current system and you can't ultimately solely blame the player.

The aim for NY was to be a good 5-8 ranked team in the East like the Nets did a few years ago so then you can attract to bigger fishes. Problem as usual is that the team (and that board) is thinking short term. You can trade as much as you want, it won't change much.

Uh...yeah....

Kemba and Evan must have been shocked when their respective contracts were offered to their agents.

8 million for 2 years and 19 million with a team option is NOTHING compared to

$31,320,000
$33,640,000
$35,960,000

100 million guaranteed for a guy who will be 30 at his last year and can't even get a higher eFG%(49) than Fournier or Kemba.
The league average for eFG% is .521. Siakim is at 49%.

Crackhead Siakim defense rating also went down and he's regressed. Siakim was only good when Kawhi was the main feature.
Toronto has the same problem as the Knicks, overpaid for a forward who chucks, shoots worse than most guards and gets carried on defense. I'm not even a Toronto hater, I've given Barnes the most praise than anyone in this forum and respect Toronto's front office, but the Siakim resigning was desperate and hasn't work out for your team. So you look pretty goofy coming to a Knicks board trying to flex when Raptors owe 100 million dollars to a guy who can shoot over 49% eFG and has a defensive rating of 111, which is worse than Julius Randle who has been at 107 and 109 the last two seasons. This was a reality check for you.

It was a mistake to bring in Thibs, the same reason why he failed in Chicago, Minnesota...now we're going through it.

8 million isn't even a lot of money for a 2 year contract.
Fournier we was desperare, I admit that. 3 years for a guy who been in the league for a decade and has never shown to play defense or play with energy was a stretch. We actually need an offensive guard because we lacked offense outside of Rose/Quickley.

But you guys will learn this Thibs era got overrated quickly, Knicks got praise for their defense, but in the playoffs that defense was no where to be found and Randle shot 29% in the playoffs against the Hawks.

Thibs can't coach an average NBA offense, let alone a good one.

3+1

It's a borderline bad contract, but not an albatross.
