It’s hard to tell. The kid has a lot of offensive moves for someone his age, 6’9 in shoes, and he’s a gym rat. I actually want to say he could develop like Gallo, but I think he might have more self creation upside than Gallo had when he got here.

Kolek is 6’9”? A modern day Ben Simmons big point guard? Who knew? *wink*

The main thing is he has a high BBIQ, is skilled for his age, and has a legit Forward body.

So we calling him Pac Dadi yet or does he have to posterize someone first?

 I swear I’m going to know these names by the beginning of the season.

Regarding Kolek. It’s good to have a PG who plays like your starter for situation where you want offensive cohesion between the starters and bench. However Pacome to me is the real interesting player. Kolek is here for redundancy. Pacome adds a new wrinkle to the team if he develops like we hope.

The more I see Dadiet highlights the more I can understand why the Knicks liked him alot. This kid has a special skill in finding open spaces to receive passes. He makes great reads and cuts, way ahead of his 18 years.

McCullers plays like this as well.

McCullers has a great motor, so does Dadiet. Kolek, while not the most athletic, has a massive chip on his shoulder and also relentless competes. Hukporti is supposed to be a very physical player and excellent offensive rebounder.

I think the Knicks killed this draft.

Every one of these players is liked by some draft pundit. Also, they all have some critics. But there are more positives for each player and not one of them was universally canned.

Best thing, is Knicks are drafting talent, but talent that fits the culture and style of hard work, make cuts, share the ball, play defense.

This FO is totally killing it.
This is a long term cultural approach.
Should have a nice 5 years coming up.

Dolan will probably ruin it all somehow.

Then again, the Rangers had issues for a while and Dolan let Sather do his thing, and though there has been GM and coaching turnover since, the Rangers have been largely a good team for a while. Maybe lack the ability to get over the hump and get another cup, but mostly a well run franchise.

Maybe the Knicks are in that Sather phase.

Nice to see an optimistic post for once. ;)

For balance/cold water, I thought these two youtube podcasts were quite interesting. The guy being interviewed is jag who blogs on the draft, so take it for what you will.

This kid is only 18? Wow. His shot looks pretty clean with a quick release. He has touch in the mid range. Cuts through the lane for open looks. Finds open spots with ease in these highlights. Looks like a high IQ player. What are his weaknesses?

I'm a little excited by this draft after seeing highlights on a couple of these kids. Kolek looks like another really solid pick. I haven't done the deep dive on the other two but, keep hearing good things. Would be nice to hit on these kids like we did with Deuce/IQ/Mitch and to some extent Grimes though he disappeared after a while. They all seem to fill a need and could offer even more depth than Thibs can handle! Maybe find a starting level talent out of one of them at least. Would be really cool. I don't expect much this season though.

Some folks are commenting that Kolek could be the steal of the entire draft....I look forward to watching him in the Summer League.

He signed for 80%. That almost never happens. Does anyone remember the last time a first round pick signed for 80% of the scale?

I guess he really wanted to come over and the Knicks said "OK, but it'll cost ya".

What does 80% mean? You mean that every 1st round pix typically gets signed to the max allowed? Serious question.

It's a scale from 80% to 120%. Most players sign are 100 to 120%.

I don't know about recently, but when the 80% to 120% agreement was written up and fixed rookie contracts became a thing, done to prevent college kids from gouging the team that picked them, most teams offered 120%, it was almost the default. Offering less than 120% was seen as cheap.

Fun bit of history. When Glenn Robinson was drafted #1 overall, before the rookie scale was in place, his agent negotiated a 10 year, 68 million dollar contract. He was a big reason for the new rookie scale contracts in the CBA that following year.

Gonna check out some Westchester Knicks games to see Pac, I would kind of expect Tyler to be with the main team, but he'll probably get some games in White Plains too.
