we were the actual worst team in the NBA and just struck out on Zion and then struck out on everyone else in free agency because nobody wanted to come here at all, nobody even wanted to take Dolan’s money to ruin their career. But he came, and he left money on the table when he extended early the first time. When Brunson came here we’d at least made the playoffs recently and had a competent coach with an all star on the team a lot of assets and some building blocks in place

He could have just mailed it in like everyone else does after Dolan paid them but instead he won most improved player and racked up enough accolades to where we could trade him for an established all star all nba center

Even with being here the first year with Fizdale’s disaster of a team, he had an overall winning record with the Knicks, a difficult feat for this franchise. Culminating in a great trade that makes us one of the NBA’s best teams. Not like Melo, who we ultimately had to trade for virtually nothing and the team left in shambles. Look at what this team was before he got here, vs now.

I wouldn’t change a thing, glad about the trade as well

Yea…when I see Randle do what he did on the court, it was just completely antithetical to me and how I grew up. I grew up raised by parents who worked seven days a week 7 am to 9 pm. A lot of my classmates came from the same background. I learned as a kid that there’s no task beneath me. If something needs to get done, I do it.

It’s why I was pretty pumped about Randle in 2020-2021, and then disliked him even more afterwards. It would have been better if he had never shown me that he could play defense if he tried - because I was always going to hold him to that standard afterwards.

You get hater status for the entire year. If we win the chip you get the blank staring emoji all the way through the parade. You get to cherish none of it. I'm honestly a little disappointed in myself for believing in your deceit and wretchedness.

I’m just being honest Cap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Brunson but he has to prove last season wasn’t a fluke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He has a lotttttttt of pressure this upcoming season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully he proves us right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he does then we can put him up there with the great Knicks like lin etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until he does we can’t put him in the same stratosphere as lin, Ewing and others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We just CANTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fans are quick to stand behind players who leave it all on the floor every night.....even if they're not as talented as Randle.

Knicks fans aren't stupid. They know the difference between Lance Thomas giving 100% effort but simply doesn't have any talent and Randle who has 100% talent but doesn't give any effort.

I hear people say that Randle left money on the table but did he get the maximum amount of money he could get at the time he signed his extension or are you only talking about that he didn't wait until his contract expired when he could have re-upped for a 5 year max?

Honestly if Randle did not re-up when he did i'm not sure if he would have still been in New York after the 2021-22 season if he was not traded before then. With that playoff performance followed up with that 21-22 season he probably wouldn't have been offered near as much as he was for extending early and his career may have taken a completely different path. That early extension may have been more of a blessing for him than the Knicks.

What Jeremy lin did in those two weeks was greater than anything any other knick player did for this franchise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He didn’t have the infrastructure that Brunson does now to help him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that Miami game he was set up to fail by two of the most jealous/selfish players of all time in Carmelo and jr smith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They wanted linsanity to end and they wanted lin gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately they got their wish that offseason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is why Carmelo never won anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he had just trusted lin and let lin lead him he’d have at least a ring or two in his career!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s just the unfortunate truth Dagawd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

people still getting on Randle for walking back on D at times and low effort in the half court when games aren't going well

things happen. players are human. I've seen lebron give up on just as many plays as Randle. I've seen every player do it. I've seen giannis lay down on the floor during live play because he's too scared to shoot some damn free throws

fact remains Randle revitalized this franchise, turned himself into a 2x all nba player and all star wearing our jersey, and consistently made the game easier for all his teammates. I'll always fw him and hope he succeeds

Seems like in game 3 for other teams, the starters don't play much and they give all the bench guys run, all the way down to the camp invites.

Let's see what Thibs does.

Hmm I have two points to make about this one. First, I think we need to walk back the Randle is a martyr narrative people are so attached to. I’m pretty convinced I’m part of a vocal minority here regarding Randle. Towards the end of Randle’s tenure, one of the most frustrating things was the majority of the RealGM’s Knicks fanbase’s willingness to max Randle. I’m not even including the NYK Mentality minicult, either. Evidently, they disagreed with me and thought he was a championship level power forward. That’s a little too much appreciation in my book. To me, Randle basically lowered the floor on our ceiling.

David Lee was called out for his defense. His nickname was Dave the Doorman. RJ Barrett tried but was not good at defense - there was a year where he was basically our best defensive option against wings. He might gotten some favoritism for being a draft pick, which is a bias I agree fans have, but he wasn’t universally loved. I don’t think there’s any player who really is universally loved. Brunson is the closest but even his haters came out when he had 2 bad games against the Sixers in the playoffs.

Randle got a lot more love than he deserved, considering his controversies. A small subset of his detractors really cannot stand his lack of effort. He and a certain top player from this past century, they got a lot of appreciation but they don’t deserve what Brunson gets, although Brunson’s story isn't finished yet. If Randle doesn’t get that love, it’s not some grave injustice to be remedied. It should be acknowledge he deserves some love but he made decisions that also hurt the franchise and his legacy.

idk i feel like we all hated on randle except for melo and rob until last season, where he changed his game and became a power forward i not only enjoyed rooting for but wanted to win with. having said that i've moved on and am looking forward to the brunson/kat era

David Lee was more of an underdog story. Late pick, low expectations, overachieved, developed into an allstar. So of course fans are going to like a player like that. His defense was bad, and some fans still got on him about that, but he just didnt have that ability.

RJ pretty much always at least gave effort and gave his all. He probably tried too hard at times. But yea, plenty of fans got on him too.

Randle's effort at times was at another level of lethargic. He had a lot of stretches of brilliance where he was showered with MVP chants and beloved too. His defense was even pretty solid at times during those stretches. The bottom was just really bad, where he had moody swings getting into arguments with coaches and teamates, awful body language, boneheaded decisions, and of course just not trying at all on defense. He def looked checked out during those stretches. It was very noticeable where even some of his biggest fans were like its time for him to get traded.

In the end, Randle did give us more good then bad. He is human so who knows what he was going thru so I feel for him on that end.
But it was a rollercoaster ride with extreme ups and downs. When a player is mentally checked out fans are going to pick up on it and get on them about it.
