we're not built for the playoffs. Thib is a reg season coach.
also we are mostly midgets. why does everyone else seem to have young 6-10 athletes all over the roster but us.

There’s people here still in denial about KAT’s defense
He’s not a great defender but you know what, at the end of the day they still only scored 108 points, they average 117.1, that should have been enough to win the game, this is supposed to be the best offensive team in history and we barely cracked 100 I put the blame on that end

They had a 9 rebound advantage due to their overall size. Lowkey I think that is what really gave them the game.

WargamesX wrote:I said this before the game there are a lot of mismatches in ATL’s favor. It sucks, but when Mitch comes back I want to run it against them again. I don’t think they win and it’ll put who they are as a team in perspective.
I don't want to capitulate on a player who's currently injured, but expecting Mitch back to "save our defense" would be a disservice.
-Knicks brought in OG and Bridges to be the top tier perimeter defenders, and only 1 of them has lived up to that billing.
-Never play drop coverage with KAT at the 5 when a PG has a float game.
-Knicks don't have the depth at the bench like last season (basically, I would play more Hukporti and Dadiet, but I'm not a coach that doesn't give rookies a chance)

Another telling thing about JB is that he seems to force more at home ... on the road he's got a better balance

Sad, but true.
Mostly because we lost all trade flexibility.
And now we’re hard capped in the second apron.

Hawks shot 16/27 at the rim in the second half

Re: PG: Knicks vs ATL
We got beat by lack of creativity on offense, poor shooting (a direct result of fatigue-Thibs), drop coverage (that’s on Thibs not KAT), rebounding (especially when KAT was out), and most importantly the refs bs calls/non calls.

Having said that, for all the crap we gave guys like Randle and RJ for pissing themselves come playoff time - Thibs is cut from a very similar cloth. It’s all cute when he’s miserable and angry when we are up 30. But when the game is clearly slipping away (and it was unbelievably obvious that it was around the 8 and change mark in Q3), he’s got this shook look on his face. It’s like his brain can’t comprehend that his pre-game scouting report wasn’t working and he was utterly amazed to see that Quinn’s strategic adjustments were in fact successful.
My main issue with Thibs is that while he’s certainly an X’s and O’s guy, I don’t believe his in-game processing is good. In fact it’s his worst trait as a coach bar none.
For me, he will always look for adjustments AFTER the game is played. He’ll sit in a dark room and watch 17 hours of footage and yes, his work ethic is second to none.
I just wish that he had the ability to try things, both offensively and defensively even if it’s for short spurts. You ever see a boxer change his stance mid fight? It’s all part of a calculated mind game to confuse his opponent and I just feel it’s something he’s been lacking since his Chicago days.
I’ve long said that all of thibs coaching takes place before tip off. Once that ball is in the air those guys are on their own. Pray everything works out exactly as planned because if not you’ll just be doing it until it does or fail spectacularly which is what happens most of the time.
His adjustments are nonexistent. He takes ages to try new things, test rotations, defensive formations, lineups. He still thinks packing the paint and giving up 3s is the way to play against all 29 teams. Blanket style coaching without forming individualized game plans based on how teams play.
Even during randles MIP season he was still starting eldritch Payton until game 5 against the hawks. He’s stubborn and not as great of a basketball mind people think he is. Old and washed up. Built some semblance of culture here but it’s time to send him packing and bring in a guy with a fresh working brain
For as talented as NBA players are, they are human beings after all and the psychological aspect of the game will always be significant to me.
All I’m asking for Thibs is to TRY something, literally anything. Trap Trae in the back court for 3 possessions and let Daniels self create. Don’t play drop against Young so he doesn’t pick us a part for a 6min stretch. Play Brunson off ball for a 3min stretch to confuse ATL as somewhat of a decoy. ATL wanted Jalen to be in the action every time down the floor and it played perfectly into ATLs hands. Let Hart orchestrate the offense at times and run P&Rs with your other wings. Give a zone look for about 90 seconds. Switch everything for 90 seconds. Go at Trae every single time down and get our wings to post him up on the low block. When you a call a TO, actually design a highly intelligent play. When inbounding the ball line up in an unorthodox fashion.
And the truth is, if none of that worked I would be okay because I could tell myself that Thibs truly tried everything and was willing to deviate from his pre-game plan. But it’s his rigidness that makes his feet cement like. As if he can’t get out of his own way.

Yeah and let the fanbase get embarrassed again by the opposing PG that has been clowning us for years. We didn’t get the money now poor Deuce has to continue to get his meals from an NYC dumpster

We were the envy of the NBA for having so many picks and the brightest future, and gave it all up for this guy. This the kind haul that would get you any superstar on the trading block. It was essentially double the deal for Donavon Mitchell

As bad as this was, the cup is meaningless and if we win the next game against Orland we’re miraculously in 3rd place lol

On most nights, he would gather himself and start to cook Dyson Daniels, but tonight, I think on some possessions he forced things.
