LMAO that this guy took the joke seriously.

Serious dude, you're taking your racial identity way too seriously or take it as seriously as you want, but it's not a good look here.

Lets face it the stereotypes/ingrained biases are out there...

The enrollment controversy*

Worries that efforts in the U.S. to limit enrollment of Asian students in top universities may migrate to Canada

* That Asian students work harder is a fact born out by hard data. They tend to be strivers, high achievers and single-minded in their approach to university. Stephen Hsu, a physics prof at the University of Oregon who has written about the often subtle forms of discrimination faced by Asian-American university applicants, describes them as doing “disproportionately well—they tend to have high SAT scores, good grades in high school, and a lot of them really want to go to top universities.

* The impact of high admissions rates for Asian students has been an issue for years in the U.S., where high school guidance counsellors have come to accept that it’s just more difficult to sell their Asian applicants to elite colleges. In 2006, at its annual meeting, the National Association for College Admission Counseling explored the issue in an expert panel discussion called “Too Asian?” One panellist, Rachel Cederberg—an Asian-American then working as an admissions official at Colorado College—described fellow admissions officers complaining of “yet another Asian student who wants to major in math and science and who plays the violin.” A Boston Globe article early this year asked, “Do colleges redline Asian-Americans?” and concluded there’s likely an “Asian ceiling” at elite U.S. universities. After California passed Proposition 209 in 1996 forbidding affirmative action in the state’s public dealings, Asians soared to 40 per cent of the population at public universities, even though they make up just 13 per cent of state residents.

* In his 2009 book No Longer Separate, Not Yet Equal, Princeton University sociologist Thomas Espenshade surveyed 10 elite U.S. universities and found that Asian applicants needed an extra 140 points on their SAT scores to be on equal footing with white applicants. Scandals over such unfair admissions practices have surfaced in recent years at Stanford, Harvard University, the University of California at Berkeley and elsewhere.

What stereotype? If anyone is peddling that, it's you.

Every nationality, creed, sex, and orientation has one, but this is BASKETBALL.

Lin is praised for putting the ball through the hoop, and that is all.

Call Lin Asian all to your heart's desire, but when you're done, the young is from, born and raised...American.

Finally someone from the Knicks front office clears the air on why the Knicks didn't re-sign Jeremy Lin. So we know now that the Knicks are being fiscally responsible...and that's a good thing after the Isiah yrs right?

That said, I feel alright about this upcoming season. I won't go to a game but I'll watch from afar.

Dont joke about it then...

I was attempting to give his mindset...

how he thinks... how making mistakes will make him want to work harder...

its just how Asians raise their kids... and more importantly how Lin was raised...

getting yelled at, making bad passes... getting tooled by a elite player will only make him work harder...

because thats how I was raised... failure is not a option... there is no fragile ego to massage...

I never said he wasnt American...

I am saying he was raised by immigrant Taiwanese parents who stressed education over athletics...

kudos to people like you who say he is American... and not a hyphenated American

but

there are many people out there... who would consider him not a real American, or not the right type of American...

or at the very least Chinese or Taiwanese-American...

when most people bump into a white dude... and ask where he is from and he says America...

you dont ask are you Irish American or Italian American maybe German American?

like most people would with an Asian- American

You have identity issues bro.

Wherever you live must be pretty jacked.

No one cares that Lin has Asian descent, so quit peddling.

And no one knows how Lin thinks, his thought process isn't based on race, it's based old natural competitive nature of wanting to be the best general can be.

Lol if anything it just validates how dumb Dolan is. He spent money on Curry, Jerome James, and **** players. When it comes to really good players, he let them go.

Separate the Knicks and owner please.

You know what's worse than me joking about it? You thinking Asians have the market cornered on being raised hard, with discipline, no "fragile ego".

You're like a one man band convincing all the Lin haters that his fans were on his jock because of his race and not his play.

I'm not sure, maybe that's not what you are doing, but you if not, you're messing it up and sure making it SEEM that way.

For the record, I like Lin, and his attributes may in some part be a consequence to an Asian cultural heritage, but pretty sure they don't have the exclusive hold on hard work and study, and I'm pretty sure all those black or white dudes in the NBA, they might have worked hard a wee bit too. It wasn't all just foodstamps, smokin crack and ballin at the schoolyard...

things like slacking off... playing half a$$ talking back to the coach...

would be a no no...

STOP MAKING THIS ABOUT RACE. YOU WERE ALREADY WARNED BY A MOD.

No one here likes or dislikes (other than you apparently) Lin based on his race. It is his free agent actions and play on the court that people are disputing NOT RACE.

buddy you guys are the ones who made it about race...

I was just trying to paint a picture of how he is raised... did you hear me say Lin was raised like this... and the other NBA black players or whites players are not?

im sure there are other NBA players raised just like Lin...

but

im not talking about other players...

im fine about talking about how his race factors into it..

we can pretend race dosent matter in the USA...or in basketball for that matter

but you know it does...

and it factors into what the haters write about Lin
