Damn, I wanted Springer in the fold. Now where do we pivot or are we done with significant deals?

I don't think so. It opens up a lot of money for other deals/trades.

Yeah, this is weird but it's not unlike Sandy who may have decided on a different strategy ... which remains to be seen. I dunno. Sandy is like that girlfriend who always likes to shop in thrift stores and garage sales.

I think there's also some MLB owners-related politics going on and Cohen is trying to not rock the boat, if you know what I'm talking about. The other MLB owners are not happy about him and all of his money.

Is Jackie Bradley, Jr. still a possibility? Do we even want him? Maybe we just resign Jake Marisnick to back-up Nimmo in CF?

Oh, and where's that fool blueNorange who said we were signing Springer?

I like the no springer and Cohen sticking to his guns.

It’s a business decision and it’s important to let ppl know you can’t be negotiated against yourself. Cohen is gonna have to fork crazy $ to lindor and conforto anyway next year

This also gives the Mets a good opportunity to grab another top reliever and back end starter for little long term consequence

The team is already insanely strong and if the DH comes through... the team is even stronger Bc you can basically play Dominic and jd everyday

you do know that sometimes things like toronto foolishly giving 6 years over 150 mill happens right?

up until that second mets had the highest offer.

so before calling me a fool just know that i don't have to post these "rumors" from a guy that's most often right on here at all.

Oh, but I thought we had all the money on the world to sign whoever we wanted. You didn't protest when the Mets were talking about spending $150 million on Springer over the past month, did you? I don't seem to recall that you did. In fact, when posted a comment about the Mets going in a different direction than Springer, you scoffed at it.

I guess you didn't see your boy Rosario getting traded either.

---------------

DeGrom - Bauer - Syndergaard - Carrasco - Stroman

I could get used to that.

If they didn’t want to spend money Springer, what makes u think they’ll spend it on Bauer?

I would love Bauer just so that he can pass that sticky finger glue to the rest of our pitching staff lmao.

I guess anything is possible. It's not our money, so ... But after what we went through with Porter (and Beltran), I'm not sure Sandy or Cohen have the stomach for another possible headache. Maybe we make another trade or sign Taijaun Walker. I wouldn't mind him. Gio Gonzalez says he wants to play for the Mets. Maybe we sign him to a minor league deal?

Remember, we have Thor coming back in June/July.

 I had a feeling in my gut after Porter was fired. I mean, c'mon, it's a natural. "Ambassador" Minaya. Just please bring Willie back and undo and injustice.

FWIW:

The New York Mets have formally offered free-agent starter Trevor Bauer a contract that would make him baseball’s highest-paid player based on an annual average salary, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.

Newer reports suggest the offer isn’t the highest ever AAV, but team still very much engaged in talks with Bauer.

I wonder if the report yesterday that the union rejected the universal DH / expanded playoffs changed anything. Maybe they figure if they can get Bauer on a short term, high AAV contract, it’s a better use of funds than getting a CF (who would push Nimmo or Smith to the bench).

Steve Cohen just invested 3 billion in Melvin Capital yesterday, and this is the firm that is losing their a$$ on shorting GameStop.

Will this affect us at all?

The MLBPA rejected the universal DH? I haven't followed this but I find it surprising. Plus, I was hoping for it so we could move Alonso to DH and DSmith to 1B.

Yeah the players rejected a proposal that would have made the DH universal in exchange for expanded playoffs. I doubt the door is closed on anything (I think last year they agreed on both right before the season started), but the lack of clarity is frustrating. DH would certainly help the Mets.

I am kinda torn his off the field stuff is a bit rough to deal with but he is a really talented pitcher.

Do you have any issues with signing him...seems like there is a good portion that don't want him on the Mets. Even SNY is starting the come at him with the Doug Williams tweet.
