Fournier/Cam/IQ/3 unprotected/2 swaps/mavs pick/pistons pick or wiz pick

Then trade Randle and rose for rw and buy him out

That puts the Knicks about 6m into the luxury tax and with a team of

Brunson
Mitchell
Barrett
Toppin
Robinson

bench

Grimes
McBride
Hartenstein
Sims

and a single 5m exception and a pick every other year.

This is really not a good team

It's why you hold onto Fournier, Randle, one of IQ and Grimes, and Obi if you can, but not absolutely, especially if Obi out means retaining IQ AND Grimes.

Then, you have:

Brunson/IQ
Mitchell/Fournier
RJ/?
Randle/Obi
Big Mitch/Hartenstein

And then have the following players to deal if trades can be made: Randle/Fournier/Big Mitch/RJ/Obi/IQ

Or, in the Grimes stays and IQ goes out with Rose (hurts backup PG a bit)
Brunson/?
Mitchell/Grimes
RJ/Fournier
Randle/Obi
Big Mitch/Hartenstein

And then have the following players to deal if trades can be made: Randle/Fournier/Big Mitch/RJ/Obi/Grimes

And finally, the Rose/Cam/Obi is the outgoing

Brunson/IQ
Mitchell/Grimes
RJ/Fournier
Randle/Paschall
Big Mitch/Hartenstein

And then have the following players to deal if trades can be made: Randle/Fournier/Big Mitch/RJ/Grimes/IQ/Paschall

Honestly, I think best trade in terms of having the best team and most future flexibility is to deal Rose, Obi, Cam - if Jazz will take that trade and not ask for every last pick the Knicks can legally trade.

They'll have 7 players making 28, 25 (if RJ extended), 17, 14, 8 (if RJ not extended), 2.7, 2.7, whatever the MLE is that Paschall signs for.

Pretty good range of salaries, talent, skills to trade somewhere. Meaning, better flexibility to upgrade.

I want the Knicks to retain Obi. I like Rose. Fournier has his issues. I'd rather surround Brunson and Mitch with shooting in the rotation, and have more pieces to trade later. Also, while Obi is good and Randle's attitude is a legit concern, I think it's easiest to replace Obi's 17 mpg of backup PF production, especially if the Knicks insist on keeping Randle.

To me, this the trade to make once you remove emotion or attachment to certain players.

I think that it will be entirely up to Jazz, I can't see Knicks holding strong on a IQ/McBride choice. We already are not negotiating RJ and we don't want to cash out our picks. Gotta give somewhere.

Teams usually use the Knicks to drive the price up on their trades, its funny when they dont have anybody else to hike up the pricetag on us.

If Boston wanted spida Ainge would take garbage 2nd round role players from them and say they're better then IQ Obi Grimmes or protected picks.

The wait is torture for some, but if it means torturing Danny Ainge too it is surely worth it

Plus, if we have to wait it out during the month of August there is the upside of watching Buzz morph into Akira and completely spooging the universe with their analysis, analogies, analects, analogues and their overall analphabetism

By that logic, would they all be impactful starters?

Where are you getting +250 off the bench for Burks? He was +43 this year, and +130 last year off the bench.

Burks actually had a better +/- per game this year as a starter than he did as a bench player, which kind of hurts your point :o

I thought his Burx numbers were funny, thanks for clearing that up.

Burks had a positive +/- as a back-up and as a starter.

He was the only starter with a positive +/-, for the whole season, and even when isolating the period from November 27 where he effectively became a starter.

But it's not really that surprising that he had a positive impact in both roles, since he's an elite 3-point shooter and a good defender. The combination of those two qualities is what you want most from your role players. Burks was the best and arguably the only two-way player in the starting line-up. It's a sad reality, but a reality nonetheless, until the other starters get their head up their ass and start playing two-way ball again.

RJ has the ability to playmake.

The problem dating back to college is his willingness to do it.

Bottom line is he wants to score the ball. Every now and then he will mix it up but he's not a willing passer. There is no excuse for him to be in the 20th percentile (thereabouts) in assists per game among high-usage players. He needs to be coached harder, and be held accountable for his lack of passing.

Pearlman and Tjarks (beyond the foolery of Desktop) talked about it before he stepped on an NBA court, just to highlight that this is not new.

Willingness to pass will define what level of success this team achieves this year with or without DM. The one thing about GS that has earned my respect is that even with the greatness of Steph and a great team behind him those guys really find each other. I think our talent level will be sufficient to win any game we play this season, but the level they play at will be based on finding each other.

I’m pretty down on Thibs in general and I don’t really expect him to coach them into a motion offense. He is so enamored of guys who can create and penetrate for themselves that as a coach I think he rarely sees the forest for the trees.
