They can't just identified say like 30 coaches they want to interview and a few happen to be with other teams so they have to ask permission?

I think it's a little far fetched to think these are all there top candidates they would basically hire on the spot.

The weird thing to me is that we didn't ask about Kidd until the door was already shut. I.e. there was all this smoke about mutual interest, he hires two new assistants, seems on his way to getting an extension, and then we finally ask. Whereas in the other cases there was a simple FOH.

I'm not saying we're doing something sneaky and smart. It could be sneaky and dumb for all I know. But there does seem to be another layer where we gather intel and then officially ask more to close the door than open it.

it just sounds to me like kidd played us. that's his history pulling these kind of things. they probably asked just for final confirmation so they could move on.

He did do that*. But my point is he was clearly aware of our interest before we asked to interview him and used that as leverage. My assumption is the other guys were contacted too but blew of off immediately. There's definitely some backchannel poking around going on.



*I was gonna have a hard time talking myself into a Kidd hire. He left such a bad taste in my mouth with how he took the Nets job.

If a coach is given permission to leave and another team has reached out, it’s basically a formality at that point.

If you talk to a coach before asking the team it's called tampering.

You canaube back channel gauge interest with an agent but you legit can't talk to a coach of another team.

i know that

it was done in an order we're not aware of. when it was reported doesn't mean that's when it happened.

again, and for the last time , find me any time in history a team got an official interview with another team's head coach and he returned to that original team.
