FVV will be masquerading as a 1st option if we get him...true. But the difference between all that is that FVV will still be able to shoot and play defense. He'll be able to handle the ball and pass. When it comes time to get the 1A caliber type of guy, FVV will still be able to play next to him, and he's proven it.
If we can pay Randle, Portis, Ellington, Payton and all these guys to give us negative production, we can certainly dump all those guys, pay FVV, and use the other cap space for what we need (it'll be hard to dump Randle, but yea). Still if you asked me today, would you rather pay 18-20 for Randle or pay more for FVV, the decision seems really easy to me. The other thing is that while Randle hinders Mitch and RJ's growth, I presume that FVV will be able to contribute to their growth. Spacing the floor, setting a defensive culture, and nose to the ground grinding. We'd have an identity. Put FVV, Frank/draft pick, RJ and Mitch together, and all of a sudden you got 4 guys on the floor who want to play defense, being led by Thibs.
It will be an overpay...yea. But the thing is, half our roster is composed of rookie contracts anyway, so in theory, if FVV improves our young players' production, we get plus value from their contracts and negative from his. I want this dilemma of having to figure out how to pay all these amazing young players' extensions, but currently, our dilemma is how we can scam some teams into taking a former lotto pick so we can move up six slots in the lotto.
I ain't that stuck on FVV because we don't know how the draft will look like, but if we get him, I'll be happy. I can get behind the logic.
