Re: Offseason Thread Continued - Atlanta Got Crabbes and We're Panicking
Even if Durant is Kobe in his recovery, he still doesn't make it back, and then only as a more limited player, halfway through next season. Or whatever mid december is.
Now the Knicks would be paying max money for 3.5 years for a player who'll be at best 90% of what he was.
Dream is over. Nice while it lasted.
At least it didn't happen while he was a Knick.
Baby steps of progress.

Get another top 5 pick. Our youth develops. Still have the 2021 Mavs pick which could easily be a lottery pick. And hopefully Durant can succeed like Kobe did and note, Kobe’s knees were shot, so I think he can overcome this.
Pretty risky, I’d be 50/50 for it.
This would be the worst case scenario. Pay a guy 1/5 of his contract to rehab then another 2/5 in his twilight years. No thanks. I hope the knicks aren’t this stupid.

Everyone out here saying “oh let’s rebuild” so quickly without any type of mourning is incredible. Doesn’t sound like you wanted Durant in the first place.
This isn’t losing Zion, losing Zion was math and the math wasn’t in our favor.
Kevin Durant, the best player in the world, intended to sign the Knicks this offseason and he tore his Achilles in the NBA finals.
We were there - we almost did it. We were about to turn the corner from ”imcompetent” knicks.
Just wait until the Nets sign wack job Kyrie but the Knicks miss out on KD (injury) and AD - who the Knicks RIGHTLY pass on trading for because why gut the team, Carmelo style, if there is no 2nd star?
Then all next year, AT LEAST, we'll have to listen to all these so called "journalists" spin it on how incompetent the Knicks are, because their FA plans blew up, but the Nets FO is full of geniuses.

I knew something was off. It was an exciting day of posting.
King Ken showed up with gifts of strong AD rumors.
The forum was jumping.
Confidence was high.
The Kawhi rumors still circulated in the background, in spite of some attempts to cast rain on it.
Then last night.
Yesterday was the brief high, today the long crash.
Crack Knicks.

Let's pin our hopes that the psychopathic oddball Kawhi might randomly wake up and choose Knicks. And that the league will thwart itself, the Lakers, and LeBron and deliver AD to the Knicks instead of LA.
Yeah, I'm not signing up for that kind of dream.

Wonder if they’d consider giving him 2 year deal with a team option on year 3..
the credibility of having Durant on this team might be worth the cap hit. Continue to rebuild as he recovers from injury. And then hope in 2020 he is fully recovered and your treasure trove of assets is more greatly improved to make a run in 2020.

I totally agree with this... Durant will be cleared (imo) around Spring and will return back to form the 20-21 season. I'm thinking he'll be a PF and while I don't think the Knicks should trade their youth but I do think they should sign Durant and I think he's going to be PISSED at GSW's medical team to the point where he wants to leave (their fault or not).
I'm anxious to see if Knox hard work will pay off
Anxious to see Barrett as a Knick
Anxious to see Robinson a year matured and stronger
Anxious to see if DSJ's work on his jumper pays off

Seriously changes the dynamic. Going from KD/AD now to RJ/Kev. I was looking forward MSG to be thunderous every game with them running the show.thebuzzardman wrote:I knew something was off. It was an exciting day of posting.

I mean it could’ve been worse and happened next year after signing with us. We do have our young assets, so it’s not like we don’t have anything. I trust Perry making the right moves for this organization. But man I really wanted to compete for a title for the next 3-4 years.

a 2 year deal with 2nd year being a team option. having a place holder like durant for that first year would prevent knicks from maxing out a guy like kyrie, or someone else who won't produce wins, and would destroy the team internally.

Honestly I don’t see Durant opting out for less than 4 years guaranteed. It doesn’t make sense to negotiate a new contract off an injury or at 33. He’d only opt out if it’s a no brained for him, aka bad contract for whoever signs him

Have you not been following? The raptors went and acquired on the same tier as Durant and are on the brink of a championship. The championship window is open for every team in the league right now.
We had that player coming to New York and a good possibility another player on that tier joining him. When will you ever get the opportunity again to put 2 top 5 players together? Ever???
Knicks would’ve been back and on the map. It’s not all about bottoming out and collecting assets. The problem with the Knicks has been credibility. That’s what we’ve struggled with the last 15 years. Credibility was coming and it would’ve been instant. Now we are in same place. Maybe our middling prospects improve and we make smart moves and gain the credibility over time. It would’ve been instant. Now we back to square one

Someone with CBA knowledge, is it possible to structure something with a player option for year 2 and for year 3 there being a team option or non-guaranteed year?

We are assuming Durant has a Kobe type tear. I don’t think so. I think it is a very minor tear that just takes time to heal.
We all agree that either it’s a complete tear and we go full rebuild, or it’s a minor tear and he makes a full recovery and we go all in.

The more I think of it, the more I think giving him 2 years guaranteed makes a ton of sense.
Let him be here, mentor our guys, bring credibility, put us on the map. As he rehabs let him continue to build his brand get out on the NYC streets. Come back strong for
2020 and hopefully someone comes to join him then.
