The weird thing to me is that we didn't ask about Kidd until the door was already shut. I.e. there was all this smoke about mutual interest, he hires two new assistants, seems on his way to getting an extension, and then we finally ask. Whereas in the other cases there was a simple FOH.
I'm not saying we're doing something sneaky and smart. It could be sneaky and dumb for all I know. But there does seem to be another layer where we gather intel and then ask more to close the door than open it.
Also I think we all acknowledge and agree Kidd seems to be there top choices. They asked for permission on udoka and finch as far as we know before Kidd.
So what happens if the other team grant permission before Kidd. Would we have just said sorry we are just hiring the first guy that agreed to come.
That makes no sense.
I think they just sent out a bunch of feelers to see if any coach was interested in leaving and then go from there.

It's confusing because I think the timelines are off. They didn't incrementally do these requests. They probably happened already and media is just picking up on it now. It's all coming from other teams.
That why we haven't heard much of non current NBA coaches. Those are the ones getting leaked.
You don't think we have reached out to assistants or college coaches yet? My guess is they have.

It's so quiet, I thought the playoffs were over.
They do a horrible job. Our series was game - off day - game - off day.
They started the series have been 2 off days between each game. Talk about killing momentum.

Dolan wanted to fire Thibs several times before but stopped by Leon Rose (it came down to if you fire Thibs, I would leave too). Only this time Rose didn’t intervene. This doesn’t sound good at all.

we might have won with the extra rest days wiyh our short rotation. easier to deal with the pacers pace.

That’s not true he was talking about him being on thin ice with the current FO, he said the X/Os parts played a part but he would say all the other things that came with Thibs is what weighed more heavily(used the 65% to 35% equation when speaking about how much the other stuff may have weighed more in the organization decision to fire Thibs).

So you think Knicks may have also reached out to Budenholzer, Brown, Malone but those bits of news haven't leaked? Same with Bryant or other assistants? I think it could be true.
I followed the Raptors last coaching search pretty closely after Nurse was fired. Masai and co. are similarly tight lipped about leaks. He did miss out on Udoka because he wanted a long search process, similar to the Knicks now, and Houston swooped in. Only after the interviews had happened did it come out that Atkinson was interviewed but decided to stay with GSW, JJ Redick was interviewed, Jordi Fernandez was second choice, and Darko was hired.
Of course a big difference was Toronto was about to rebuild while Knicks are looking to keep contending.

You are right that this is a more nuanced way of explaining it but it doesn’t change the fact that other stuff played a much bigger role for his firing. X/Os were a minor part.

so he confirmed that dolan did fire thibs ?
I don't know if that is accurate. Begley said directly this was a Leon decision. So that doesn't check out.
He also said the alternative was Leon would have to leave
