"good amount" of money. Can you be more specific?

Maybe a good amount of money to the average person. But not to Melo. He's a lock to make 85-95% of what he'd make signing the extension and there's a decent chance he'll make 100%.

He already said he wasn't willing to lose 15-20 mill. That's what he'd lose in the last year of his deal if he signs under the new CBA.

You guys need more cap space too. I'm pretty sure Melo will sign the extension no matter what, then try to force a trade if it's still with the Nuggets. If it's with NJ or you guys, or maybe the Clippers or the Lakers, he'll stick it out.

You already know what the new CBA is going to mean for new player contracts?

You could also argue that Kroenke is showing good business management amongst owners by taking a hard line on tampering, and the effect of superstars post-Miami-Lebron : The owners still want a semblance of control over losing a franchise player.

And has anyone been grandfathered in ANY of the CBA deals that were unsigned since Michael Jordan? Has any professional league had roll-backs aside from the NHL once?

How many CBA changeovers do you think there have been since Max contracts were first established?

What "hard line on tampering" is he taking? Him and his junior GM has already pissed off about a half dozen teams in the NBA by publicly leaking trade details to the media, getting 90% of the way there on at least 2 deals and then suddenly backing out for who knows what reason (my guess is because they went to Carmelo and he said "no, I'm not extending"). And now they are facing the possibility that their star player is going to walk for nothing. Who are they trying to hurt? Of the 3 parties the Knicks stand to be hurt the least by this.

You keep talking about tampering, which there is no evidence of that, and Donnie knows better than to do anything illegal, so you better have solid proof of any tampering, eitherwise your crossing a line you don't want to cross.

Until you come up with the proof, I suggest you stop referring to any tampering, if you know what is good for you.

Where did he say that? The NY Papers said that Thomas may have been in contact and could have been using his ability to sway Melo to join the Knicks as a way to get back into the organization. I believe the author who penned this was Marc Berman who is about as basketball savvy as James Dolan is.

There was the 7 year max teams used to be able to give, or 6 by other teams, and 12.5% raised vs. 10%.

Right now it's the 6 year max the bird rights team can offer, vs. 5 for another team, and again, smaller raises.

The owners will be lobbying for franchise tags, a hard cap, and 5 year contract limits, with 4 offered by free agency eligible teams.

This could work out great for you guys, and you might get Melo cheaper. Or Melo could flinch and sign on July 9th.

why do you want to keep a player that doesn't want to play for you?

Even though it's exaggerated, I do think this argument between the Denver poster and our posters is what is going on between the Nugget's management and the Knick's management.

Any kind of divorce can turn ugly and people will screw themselves over to exact some kind of revenge on the other party no matter how limited or petty it seems to an independent observer.
Play time is over.

Isiah Thomas doesn't work for the Knicks. He can talk to whoever he wants.
