I agree we need a long term situation at least 2 yrs..but times are hard & things are tight..but Crawford has made a lot of money in the NBA especially from the Knicks..and he hasn't really led a team to the playoffs( yes i understand he's a former 6th man) but if he's smart winning should be his focal point & not money at this time in his career, but i also can't speak for someone else, only he knows what 's in his best interest. i can only speak on my fandom...

That has nothing to do with the amount we can give Crawford. Only reason why that sucks is now we can't buy a first round pick. I also don't think Atlanta is near the luxury tax so it doesn't help with that either...
Plus, unless we are getting Baron Davis we shouldn't trade TD IMO.

Like I said Jamal might still want to be the Man, even as a 6th man the last couple years in Atlanta he was the man. He has never deferred to anyone took all the shots during crunch time for Atlanta, he loves the big stage, well guess what so does Amare and Melo. Just seems like a bad fit to me. A shoot first player at the 2,3,and 4? He doesn't provide rebounding, defense, or an ability to run the offense. He is not even efficient.
If anything he needs to come off the bench.

Re: Knicks emerge as front runners for Jamal Crawford?
What can the other teams offer him, that's the question..
If it were a bunch more than the Knicks I don't think he'd be considering it as much as he is.... He loves NY, and I'm sure would want to be on this team, but if he were getting 6 mill a year or something in Portland or Atl. or wherever I think he'd be taking that over the 2.5 here.. Given it makes sense with all the teams with $ to spend next year that he'd not want anything long term.. If he had other options for bigger $ I don't think NY would be enough to sway a guy like him, who isn't a superstar and needs to get his money while he can...
But since he is still deliberating leads you to believe he may be willing to take a little less if it means being able to showcase his talent before going for a big check after

He has ties with Portland area I believe. If they drop him the mid-level, it may be attractive.
Indiana is also on the uptick. I don't know how much they have left under the cap.

I see him signing with Portland. It's close to home (Seattle) and his best friend, Brandon Roy, can sell him on filling his shoes.

forget Crawford. Just lock up Shawne now and hope for Baron later. Let's roll.

Agreed if crawford wanted to come here he would of taken the 2.5mil already. Camp has started and everyday shawne is not practicing with the team hurts.

Atlanta would be more likley to work a sign and trade with us and hit the luxury tax, IF we gave them some $ to cover some of the tax.

@ESPNSteinLine Sources w/knowledge of deal say Pacers have 2-yr offer out to Jamal Crawford worth $10M with out to return to FA in 2012
Might as well go to NY for 5 mil /2 years. NY > Indiana
I'm sure he can earn extra money from doing something productive in NY.

Indy's assembling quite the team. And, umm, no way in hell JC leaves $5 million on the table.
Hibbert
West/Hansboro
Granger
Crawford
Collison
I look for them to compete right below the Knicks in that secondary echelon of Eastern Conference teams behind Chicago, Miami, Boston and arguably Orlando.

Jamall would be a phenominal fit in Indy, but a better one in NY. Will he take half of the $ to come to NY?
If he were a little younger, i'd say take a year in NY, and pad your stats, because next year's free agencey will pay you more, but who knows...he will be another year older, I think his best intrest is to try to get paid now.
Still hard to believe 10/2yrs is the best offer he can get....everyone thought he'd be getting like 8-9 M a year, I guess not that much but still 10 Mill over 2 yrs? D-West got 20 over 2.
Edit also, Kwame got freaking 7mill for 1 yr.

Jamal's options are limited at best. teams cant spend and hes stuck outside looking in.
next year will be better.
he doesnt want to take a 1 yr deal for 2.5 mil but he will have to most likely because he can up his value for next year and play on a team he wants to play for
as far as a sign and trade goes the entire reason Atl wont give Jamal the money he wants is because they dont want to be in the lux tax area. If we do a sign and trade we have to send them salary and there is zero reason for them to do it without talent in return, which we dont want obviously.
the only thing we can do is send a non-guarenteed contract or a trade exception, neither of which we have.
So this leaves Jamal hunting for a contract when the Bulls just came off the market and most other good options are dry.
Portland is a possibility but after that its us and Atl
I disagree. There are teams that need to hit the 40 million dollar floor that would surely give him full MLE. Do I think he deserves it? Not sure. Does it piss me off that he was overpaid by the Knicks at one time and maybe it would be nice if he'd like to compete and take a more limited salary for a year? Sure, but that isn't happening.
How could he not deserve it he's consistently in the 6th MOY running and can put up 25 pts with no problem. He will get his money from some under the floor team and it would be a shame to see the knicks get him for anything other than the vet min...go sign somewhere else
