Good look on this video, Remi. As a psych major, I'm always interested in anything that has to do with the brain and its functions. I like that he used that park freestyle from Mos as part of his presentation. Seen it like 100 times. I also found his findings interesting, especially the part he mentioned that we lower our inhibitions when we're trying to be creative.

You got me hooked on these battles, too. I'm going back and watching all of them now. So far my favorites are Swave vs. Dizaster, Solomon vs. Ness, and Hollow vs. Okwerdz. I'm still watching Grizzle Mania right now. If you or anyone else has any battles in mind, post them.

Yeah man, I almost went for psych, it was my second choice so that was a great vid for me. Glad it wasn't wasted.

As far as battles go, there are just an insane amount that I really like, so I'ma just bombard you with names to search...

Dumbfoundead vs PH

Illmaculate vs Thesaurus (both have a ton of classic battles, Saurus v Dumbfoundead and Illmac vs Eurgh being standouts)

Soul Khan/Dirtbag Dan vs Real Deal and Fresco

F.L.O. vs Ness Lee (two of my favorites, they actually have a laid back style that few match)

Rone vs DNA and Rone vs Rugged

Real Deal vs Cortez

The catalogues of Swave, Soul Khan, Dumbfoundead, Madness and Conceited are littered with bodybags and classic match-ups.

If a mod comes in and peeps, is it time for a part two official hip hop thread? I got a new emcee (to me at least) that I want to plaster all over this thread...but I don't want the thread to shift and no one see this cat.

J4remi, you're a bigger fan of Grindtime then URLTV? I like Grindtime, but sometimes the joke stuff just gets boring and it seems like I'm watching a comedy show instead of a rap battle.

I think GT has a better variety than URL and I hate the poll system for URL... Goodz roasted Conceited (his worst performance imo) and Con got like 54% of the vote last I checked. I like both leagues though, I just think some of these URL cats are feeling themselves too much. Aye Verb, Shotgun Suge and Math are all beasts to me...but I just roll with the GT steez a little more often. I keep up with both though, And KotD and Don't Flop...I like it all.

The Saurus is actually kind of awful. I peeped 3 of his battles over the weekend wow what a terrible battle rapper living off past hype. Real Deal ate him up in Nov on GT. Phranchyze always thought he was overrated but clever in spurts picked the worst dude to partner with Star Eater now Star something else I forget. After a while it becomes very corny and the thread I posted about Eli vs 50Tyson I was kinda of being serious because there wouldn't be all this pre med prop stunt work going on behind the scenes leading up to a battle.....lol

So far those I've seen which amount to around 20

Those that are tolerable

Real Deal(Very very very very good....although his overseas battles suck)

Swave(probably most original style of them all.... one liner galore OG)

Solomon(Extremely witty and prepared although too much of a jokester at times)

Soul Kahn(cadence second 2 none has his own style too very well rounded and student of craft)

NoCanDo(dude is an intellectual regular joe assassin)

DirtBagDan(when he's not lazy can go in and out of any style anytime he wants, sometimes predictable)

Ness(probably the best street lyricist battle rapper undie I've seen)

Mac Lethal(damn good rebuttalist probably the best I've seen who doesn't appear to script out stuff)

Syd Vicious(actually somewhat underrated in some circles has that Chub Rockness swag in a way)

guys who are clearly overrated

Phrancyze(thinks he can say anything and it be funny)

Diz(he's the eminem version spazzz yeller screamer yuck and just goes on and on and on and on and on)

Hittman(another screamer and acts way too hard body)

Sensa(wow yuck)

Fresco(corny on an IQ level)

The Saurus(a screamer and sweater when he's getting bodied much like Dizzy can rebuttal and punchline)

Arsonal(doesn't know what should and shouldn't be said in a battle, thinks everything is applicable)

High Collide(a typical battle rapper)

Star Eater(messes up often in particular 2 on 2)

guys I haven't seen much of

Okwerds

Hollow Da Don

Dumbfounded

Passwurdz

Ness Lee

I know it's easy to hate Thesaurus these days, but when he first came out, he was practically the only battle cat stringing multiples and that punchline style. These days EVERYONE has that style, so while he's kinda living off his past, he's also the reason the style has moved in this direction. I may have rose colored spectacles though because I worshipped dude from the WRC's.

Your list of good emcee's is legit. I like the DBD description especially...I wouldn't say he's lazy, just that he takes too many battles which means he gives great performances followed by absolute crap. I think he might be the hardest working battle rapper, just terribly inconsistent.

The rest of your list I can co-sign to a T.

Your overrated list, some names I don't agree with. I think Phranchyze is a great freestyle rapper, not a great battle rapper in this day and age though. He's gotten a lot better though recently at least (I like D-Lor for my nerdy, free heavy battle rappers though...and D-Lor ATE Phran in a pretty great battle imho).

Fresco, I don't consider overrated because he's just mid-tier and that's all anyone rates him at. For what it's worth he's pretty funny on occasion...I watched him cypher in NY with a bunch of gun rappers, so he free'd about guns for a couple of bars than said something about how he never held a gun in his life but that ish is just fun to do, and proceeded to kick some funny gun based bars.

Hitman...I kinda like his style...Idk why, I actually feel his bars even though I typically HATE that whole steez.

Sensa does suck, Diz is overrated though I appreciate his willingness to give no-names a chance and battling Swave in NY was a risk that no top tier emcee wanted to take (Diz is treated like top tier though I'm with you), and I hate High Collide...Madness ate him...but lost.

For your haven't seen list,

I think Ness Lee (when he kicks street bars) can be very lyrical too. Hollow is my favorite street rapper bar none. Avoid Pass vs Philly Swain...it'll ruin how you look at him in his other battles...it was that bad.

Ok is another screamer...his punches are almost entirely personal based, so lyrically he's actually not great...but his exposing Arsonal was GREAT to watch and I thought he vs Hollow was one of the all time most entertaining battles.

Dumb is the best comedy rapper to me...dude is hilarious...but he is a pure comedy rapper. I give him a pass (as I do with some others to be honest) because his comedy is legitimately hilarious to me. Dumb vs Tantrum is hailed as one of the battles that put GT on the map.

Battle rap is garbage. It's good only for **** and giggles. Everyone has the same style of low and yell for a ounchline. It was ight when Head Ice, Iron Solomon and Arsonal and guys like that went in but now it seems like trash. I dont even see them dudes anymore. Well at least not here. All I saw were white rappers.

If you're gonna give battle rap from Solomon's era props...than stick to Mook and Serious Jones...Ice and Ars are characatures these days.

Yeah Jones is almost strictly music...but he's a battle rapper at heart in the same vein as Juice or Rhymefest...you get them riled up, and they'll still battle anyone any where...and crush 'em. Jones barbershop battle with Charles Hamilton is the closest we'll get to real Jones battling.

That said, Ness and Solomon were retired for a looong time before their return.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/1 ... 06959.html

It was all an act: Kanye West complained in October that the cover of his new album, 'My Dark Twisted Fantasy,' was banned (something that was publicly made never official), but it turns out, the controversy was exactly what he wanted.

West's album's controversial cover art, which featured a painting of West having sex with a phoenix and drinking, was painted by artist George Condo, who told The New Yorker that West specifically ordered controversy.

Having seen Condon's paintings, Kanye selected the painter to do the artwork, and as Condo explains it, he wanted, "something that will be banned."

Kanye's smart, great way to advertise and make his album memorable before it even got heard.

Random comment for Bluest: Did you ever check Madness vs Nocando? NoCan at his best, straight freestyling and beating writtens from a top notch rapper.
