So what kind of expensive role players can we add to this team if we don’t get a big dawg?

Fck no I want nothing to do with those **** ass contracts

I feel you. Me neither most of them are from my team (Hornets). Knicks still have to get to the salary floor though.

So is the dream over? Do we just no longer pursue and continue rebuild free agents if Kawahi dont come?

IF the Knicks knew Kawhi was coming, building around him and AD, even if enough assets went out for AD, is a great play, because both are 26, entering prime prime, and good for 4 years, if not extensions for a couple more years after that (maybe)

But AD was always a maybe - it's a trade.
Kawhi is a total wildcard.

Durant was different. Minus those accusations being leveled about "entitled" Knick fans in another topic, there was STRONG smoke he was coming here.

Now the Knicks are just another team with their fingers crossed, only with a perception of being awful for 20 years they still can't shake.

Lost my enthusiasm for the off season last night. Sure, I'll pay attention. Speculate a little. But it's different now. Anyone who doesn't see that is being a little bit foolish.

Can’t help but realize how fake Bob Myers looked in that press conference. He’s probably happy in fact. Trying to force KD to stay or ruin him.

2 max cats and kids view has made this a little less crazy. At the end of the day we don’t know nothing. He could of been going to the Nets or La for all we know.

This “I guess youth movement time” mentality is missing two things:

1)KD to the Knicks opens up the entire NBA landscape. We could’ve won a title in the next 2-3 years.
2) Our overall youth is mediocre. Knox sucks, Smith is mediocre, and the only one with mad potential isn’t someone who’s going to be a go to scorer (Mitch).

For you youngins on the board, I hate to say you’re being idealistic and naive, but just give it a few years. You’ll see just like the rest of us how **** we are and how far the “youth movement” will get us. Unless Kawhi comes, we are back to square one with no hope in sight (unless RJ Barrett becomes a superstar).

Which is why I think (again, qualifier being if it really is an achilles rupture) that we're out of the AD race. Pels want it done before the draft, now that KD's situation has changed, it's not worth the risk for us to trade for him and potentially end up stuck with no other guys to put next to him

Now, if he isn't traded before free agency and Kawhi signs with us, that's a different story. Or maybe Pills want to do the classic Knicks maneuver of trading for the star first, trying to use him to sign other stars, failing, and ending up signing 2nd tier guys to a gutted roster

Get another top 5 pick. Our youth develops. Still have the 2021 Mavs pick which could easily be a lottery pick. And hopefully Durant can succeed like Kobe did and note, Kobe’s knees were shot, so I think he can overcome this.

Pretty risky, I’d be 50/50 for it.

Eh. I don’t think I can get behind that sort of move. It’s time to move on and go in a different direction. He’s not a young man.

Look for teams needing to clear space, and gather picks for helping with our cap room. Gallo from the Clips come to mind.

I mean, you're not entirely wrong. Taking Mitch out of the equation, we probably have the worst "young core" in the league

But that's what happens. We get RJ this year, hope he pans out, but also we're still probably picking top 5 next year as well in a much better draft class (looks like so far)

Plus, it's really hard to determine how good young teams will turn out to be. If you had asked a couple years ago, everyone would've told you that Minnesota would be running the league by now, and that Denver's young core sucked, but now Minnesota is mediocre and Denver's sitting near the top of the league

Just stick to the plan and hope it works out. You need a lot of luck to win, even if you're good. I'm down to see if we can actually build something from within, but I understand where you're coming from

Dieng from Minny, Capela (or even CP3 with enough picks) from Houston, pretty much the entire Hornets roster

Isn't this the best move for the Knicks:

-Sign KD for Max
-Trade for AD at the deadline
-Hardcore tank 1st 2/3 of the season

The following year, it wouldn't be unrealistic for the Knicks to roll out a Healthy KD/Davis/Super High pick trio
