Yup. This kid is going to become something special playing alongside Melo, Amare and Chandler. I can't stress it enough, this kid was the best overall defender coming out of this years draft. Projected to guard the 1 through 3 position(s) on the NBA level. Fields has already called him a GREAT defensive player. Shump is also, by far, the most athletically gifted rookie coming out of this years draft class.

We REALLY have some defensive minded guards in TD23, Fields and Shumpert.

For the fans who wanted to trade away TD23, Fields and Shumpert, while leaving us with CP3, Melo, Amare and no size, no Center, no defense, no rebounding ability, horrible bench depth and laughing stock role players, I believe it's safe to say you don't remember the Knicks of the early 90's under Riley.

True Knick fans will always pride our team on it's ability to defend, rebound on the boards and go to war down low (Ewing, Oakley and Mason). Having defensive guards such as Starks was always fun to watch. That man played his HEART out against Jordan for many of years.

Thank god we landed an ELITE defensive Center, a Championship Winning NBA Center while KEEPING our defensive minded G's in TD23, Fields and Shumpert!

We also have no PG, and our offensive efficiency, which wasn't great to begin with, will take a big hit.

It's all well and good that we have a legit defensive big. He was needed. But now we are still a second round team until we have someone to run the offense.

Neither TD, Fields, or Shumpert can do that.

The Knicks finished 2nd in the league in scoring last year, with a dime a dozen type of PG in Felton, TD23 and an oftern injured Billups at the PG position. Fields was only a rookie 2G as well.

With two of the NBA's top 10 scorers in Carmelo (3rd) and Amare (6th)... Our offense will become as explosive as an offense can become with 3rd year TD23 running the point, as well as rookie Shumpert backing him up. TD23 will be in his 3rd year under MDA's offensive system.

And stop with your bashing of TD23 already. He's a developing talent with plenty of potential and ability at the PG position. PS: You don't need HOF players at "every position".

I'm talking about efficiency, not total points. There is a huge difference. Without a playmaker, we will have an iso offense, which is the least efficient and easiest to stop.

And Toney Douglas is a horrible PG. Don't even get started on that.

I think it's surprising on a message board with supposed hardcore basketball fans that people can't understand the difference between volume and efficiency. If two teams take 100 shots and my team hits 45% and your team shoots 50%, who do you think wins? It's not all about defense. Offensive efficiency helps your defense because it limits transition opportunities. It's one thing to get destroyed in the halfcourt. That's just terrible defense. But if a team is running up and down in transition, that's on our offense.

Total points doesn't matter. You take more shots, you score more points. But don't forget, if you take more shots, so does the other team.

points scored might be the worst possible way to measure the effectiveness of an offense. i don't think we'll be quite as bad as gonyk suggests but we need a lot of things to go right for us to be top 7-8 in offensive efficiency like we were last year.
