They don't? Gasol, up until the playoff blunders last year, was considered the best PF in the NBA. At the very worst he was #2 behind Dirk. Then you still have Kobe who's at worst the #2 SG in the NBA and still a Top 7 player coupled with CP3, the best PG in the league. That's the very definition of a superteam.

Except they traded Gasol to NOH. Their Big 3 is CP3, Kobe, and Bynum.

I can't see a Gasol/Odom for CP3 swap. That's really dumb on the Hornets part.

CP3 and Kobe mesh LESS than LeBron and Wade.

Just want to put that out there.

this is really bold . . . I think I might like it. Love Chris Paul, but I wasn't looking forward to another wasted year of trade rumors or mid-season upheavals. Carmelo is going to HAVE to do what I've been saying he needs to do to take the next step since we're probably not going to have a particularly good point guard. Really, really interesting stuff. I wonder how the communications between the coaching staff and front office have been life.

Can someone confirm the various options we still have regarding the MLE and LLE?

I'm assuming we still have the full MLE and LLE to offer -- along with vet minimum contracts - is that right?

I'm assuming we still add 2-3 key pieces....

Gasol's already maxed out his potential. He's 30+ years old. This just makes no sense to me.

am i the only person that notices what stern plans to do?

this is what stern always wanted:

lakers(kobe, paul, dwight*) vs the heat(lebron, wade, bosh) in the finals

dwight is definitely joining the lakers now.

This will make the season more fun, since we have a better team going into the season and we don't have to worry about Chris Paul.

Anyone remember Rod Strick and Mitch Richmond?

Wow...not sure about that move for Houston. NO assembling a pretty decent team

there's some confusion there because we'll be under the cap to sign tyson. that changes our options.

If it happens and they don't amnesty Okafor, that's a pretty nice squad.

Dragic/Jack
Martin
Ariza
Scola
Okafor

I'd say that's a playoff team, which is really the most you can hope for with a team like NO.

On a different front, doesn't this mean that the Hornets will win the chip now?

Eh, I doubt it. I think some teams - maybe even the Knicks, can beat the Lakers offer at the deadline.

Not sure how anybody can hate on this deal. I think if Paul/Howard/Deron weren't "available," those who hate the deal would be singing a different tune.

We basically turned Gallo, Chandler, Felton, and Mozgov into Melo and Chandler. Chandler is in China, Felton isn't on Denver anymore, so when you break down the deal and how we've rebuit, it's pretty astonishing. That, and we didn't have to blow up the team to get Paul, who I think would have been a nice fit, but a legit defensive center is just too good to pass up. We arguably have the best front line in the league and this is how you build contenders, from big to little. Assuming we can nab an amnesty PG, then our bench remains strong with TD, Shumpert, etc. Now we are starting to build a contender, instead of waiting for players year after year, it's finally time to see the team come together.

Also, don't discount the importance of A'mare going back to PF. He's going to have a monster year. Chandler is EXACTLY what this team needed.

Imagine Danny Aigne's reaction.

The Lakers get Paul, Knicks get better, Heat get better, they get nothing.
