Boom!

Conor did not do what I said he had to do. There was no strategy, just standing there trying to land and making himself a target for leg kicks

Im rooting for Poirier but my sense is that conor picked this fight for a reason. It plays to all his best attributes so I’m thinking conor, probably early rounds. Poirier changing levels with leg kicks and takedowns could make it interesting though.

Great job by Poirier bringing the perfect gameplan.

Wow, the co-mains definitely made up for a snoozer card. Glad to see Chandler and Dustin pull off the upsets!

So at this point in time, Conor McGregor is THE FAVORITE to win the rubber match with Dustin Poirier. Sweet Jesus. Let it roll.

Let me lick your tears.

You shouldn't be. Dustin has been active. He beat Gaethje. He beat Hooker. He fought Khabib. The dude has been active while Conor drinking Proper 12 and counting his money.

Can you imagine what Gaethje would do to Conor's lead leg? OMG. Conor needs to go back to basics. His greatest strength was his agility and control of distance in the ring. He's lost that now. Unless he goes back to that, that leg is a sitting duck.

Crazy stuff going on in the 155 lb division. Oliviera just turned down the Chandler "non-title" fight right after Poirier gave up his chance for the title to Charles. Dana disrespecting Charles who's earned the title fight.

I think Weasel has the match ups right given the present set of circumstances.

-Conor vs. Nate or Tony

-Poirier vs. Charles - Title

-Gaethje vs. Chandler for the No. 1 contender

That's absolutely how it should go. Although I also think this would be the best time for Dana White to turn around and finally embrace the tournament formats that Bellator, PFL and Rizin have all had some fun with. That could be a way to finally get Islam some top quality competition too (assuming he gets past Dober which is no given).

So we've got a damned good card for a freebie this weekend. Near title contention fighters in the co-mains and talent to reach that on the rest of the card. I'm hype on a bunch of these match-ups...

Overeem vs Volkov is a really nice fight. Both guys are technical strikers with pop and a bit of chin issues. Reem is a bit more technical, has more power and is a lot more chinny. Volkov could close the technical gap with his length. Reem's probably the better grappler but I can't recall seeing Volkov in those situations much. This has good chance to be a KO and the winner could position themselves for a contender fight around the time Jon Jones fights the winner of Stipe vs Ngannou.

Frankie Edgar vs Cory Sandhagen is a "hot damn" kinda fight. Both guys are in and out fighters that can feint and throw tricky combos. Frankie's the better grappler, Cory's got snap and more variety on the feet. I think this fight might be different with a prime Frankie, but I lean toward Sandhagen getting the better of exchanges. That said, never underestimate Frankie's fight IQ and toughness. I wouldn't risk betting this fight.

Michael Johnson vs Clay Guida has name value, but their both past their prime and haven't seen their best days in a while. There's a decent chance that Clay makes this grappling heavy and tries to win ugly. Johnson's anti-wrestling has always been solid though and his hands are way better.

The next two are FIRE in terms of match-ups. Pantoja vs Kape and Stamman vs Askar are both fights with guys that haven't really popped yet but are always entertaining. Some of these guys have gotten close and come up short. But I care less about their prospects and more about the fact that all four guys are scrappy as hell. Both fights can go anywhere and should be fast paced. I'm hype for 'em

Then shockingly, another match-up of monsters. Beneil Dariush and Carlos Diego Ferreira both have upside to make runs. They're both really good grapplers who have become increasingly talented strikers. These aren't guys that need to take fights down or even need to use the takedown threat to score a KO. They're both legit on the feet, but if things get tricky they can go to ground. I've always thought Dariush is a bit unlucky but then Ferreira has looked fantastic lately so I'm scared to underestimate him. These guys are elite talent, the lightweight division is just so stacked that they're not contenders yet...but they have that kinda potential imo.

Telling you fam, this ENTIRE main card is flames. It's crazy how they dogged us on half the Conor card then can bounce back with a freebie this stacked.

Volkov is a monster and Reem should probably hang 'em up.

Looks like Volkov filled out and has really got a lot of mustard on those combinations. Ouch.

Volkov versus ... Blaydes? Rozenstruik?

Rozenstruke has a fight lined up already. If blaydes wants to stay active and make some easy money he likely should take the volkov fight because Jon Jones likely gets the title fight vs stipe and nganou. You may think why not have blaydes face the loser of the title fight, well if nganou loses unlikely they do a third fight since nganou dominated the first 2, and if stiepe loses he either retires or if Jon is hurt or not ready they likely do the trilogy btw stiepe and nganou

Blaydes is fighting Derrick Lewis next week, which is perfect. The winner of that fight vs Volkov is perfect to line up after Jones' title fight. Even before Jones moved up, the HW division really has gotten interesting up top.

do you think Lewis has a chance as he likely gets taken onto the ground? Does he have to summon that 1 punch power like Nganou did vs Blaydes?
