Unfortunately, most of the people on here are falling for the ass-clownery.

Why would you want to make the guy you wanted all along seem like a consolation prize? And the fan base will be happy because you failed down? We just fired the guy who got us to the ECF.Knick4Real wrote:god shammgod wrote:So shams made up the Knicks asking for permission to multiple coaches to troll Knick fans ?
I don't know the answer to that. No one outside of the real loop does. However, here are 2 alternate theories.
1.) It was reported yesterday that the KNICKS' front office frequently calls other teams and proposes multiple mock trades just to feel out possible options for the future.
Asking a team what they would give up if (for example) Brunson were made available doesn't mean they're ready to trade Brunson. Instead, it provides them with pure information. Now, that might not be how you or I would operate, but apparently they do. And, it's at least possible they're doing that now, too.
*
2.) What if (for example) Dave Bliss or Johnnie Bryant was the actual coaching target? It's possible (especially seeing the reactions from this board) that certain fans would HATE the choice and drag Leon through the mud for failing to consider or even try to obtain other veteran options.
IF reports that Leon was denied permission to speak to Kidd, Udoku, and Finch are true, Leon could negate almost all negative press against Coach Bliss or Coach Bryant (for example) by the "I'll-Show-You-Better-Than-I-Can-Tell-You" method. Or, in other words, get ahead of the fanbase by asking to speak to coaches he knows he can't get, getting denied, then (once it looks like all options are exhausted) hiring the person he really wanted all along.
I'm not saying ANY of this is true or actually happened. I'm just providing a different perspective from what we're all being fed as fact when the rumors are probably just trash.

If the coach is a good coach what team is going to say “yeah sure you can interview my coach, just make sure you don’t hire them or anything”
They are putting out legal feelers. You go behind these team’s back then you open yourself to tampering charges. One these coaches could very well approach their team in the coming weeks and state they want out.
If they don’t you at least kicked the tires on it and did your due diligence.
Except for that these coaches are clearly getting info of our interest beforehand so by the time we ask the team, the coach might have gone to management and said they wanted out. That starts a negotiation.
So far, it looks like most of the coaches just blew it off except for slimy ass Kidd.
Based on what though Cap?
The leaks about us being interested in them have come from the teams themselves.
The search has only been going on for 8 days this isn’t some long drawn out thing that started weeks ago.
Secondary point, I don’t know the particular fines or draft pick forfeiture, but I don’t think the Knicks/this FO can afford to be hit with another tampering charge for a 2nd time, I’m sure the penalties would be stiff for a 2nd offense.
That was publicly.GONYK wrote:mpharris36 wrote:GONYK wrote:
Mikal doesn't have power, but he does have influence.
It's unclear how much the FO wants to re-sign him, though, so I think overindexing on his influence is a bit premature.
It wasn't just him though. If half the roster says they were "unclear on their role" (which really means they don't like their role) then any management team will look at that.
Of course players have influence but if Mikal doesn't agree to that team friendly extension then he will be traded as well. Its just the way the team operates.
OG is one of the highest paid players on the team he certainly has influence...he is likely who Hart was talking about early in the season to buy-in and player there roles.
KAT has influence because he is a big name piece was also traded for.
Brunson has influence because he is the captain.
I don't think anyone outside of Brunson has legit power. You aren't making decision solely based on what Mikal or KAT or OG had to say. They all very likely didn't mesh with Thibs.
Brunson is the most powerful athlete in NY and he publicly wanted Thibs to stay.
I don't think Mikal alone has more juice than Jalen.

Yes, I think so. I think the current botched coaching search is the proof that Rose had no intention to fire Thibs until the interviews happened. Ian Begley implies that the decision happened after the player interviews. And Dolan was in those interviews. Rose saw how strongly Dolan felt about firing Thibs this time.
you don't think it possible that leon himself didn't like what he heard and responded?
I find it very unlikely. Number one, Rose is around the team and players all the time. Number two, you make this decision after an incredibly successful season with the year one of the current roster makeup. Number three, you gave an extension to this coach just recently.
Rose had every excuse to bring the coaching staff and the players back, add some veterans on the cheap, maybe make one small move to upgrade Hart spot and go to the next season with a crippled Boston, Cleveland possible imploding due to luxury tax, Milwaukee going through a rebuild etc. Or you had a ready plan in terms of succession (see Memphis and Denver both knew the exact replacement) and the players complaining may trigger your plan B. Neither was the case.
For a guy who seems to have operated with patience and brought stability to the franchise, I find this chaotic decision unlikely for Rose
