I'm a Melo fan and the Knicks should most definitely match Lin.

I really think both Melo and Woodson had a say in this. Melo doesn't want to share the spotlight with Lin and Lin is not a Woodson-type PG. You know that once Felton comes here, he'll be treated like JR Smith.
wtf?

That makes no sense. The amount of money that Lin will make the Knicks in year 1 will EASILY outweigh the losses in year 3. So even if Lin is a flash in the pan and they lose money in year 3, it's still a hugely profitable overall 3-year investment considering what he'd make for the Knicks in the first two years.
They'd still be making more money with Lin than without Lin.
Everyone keeps saying this but it makes no sense. If Lin stays and plays well, he'll make the team money.
If Lin stays and doesn't play well, Linsanity is over and who would care about a bench scrub?
Jeremy Lin is only profitable to the Knicks as a star player/media attraction. If he's less than that, he's not the cash cow everyone screams he is.

Felton came here to start next to JKidd, if he knows that he'll be coming off the bench, he would sign elsewhere to be a starter, even if he has to go to Sacramento.
Felton is a top15-20 PG in the league... how could he come here in a cheap deal to come off the bench?
That's not true; Thomas would start over him in Sacramento. There's not a single team in the NBA right now where Felton would be the starting PG, other than Houston.
Felton will be a starter in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago (Rose injured), Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indiana, Miami, NOLA, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, and maybe Utah.
Teams were not signing Felton to sign over young PGs like Teague, Collision, Knight, Hill, Chalmers, and Rivers. Charlotte just signed Sessions. He'd be Chicago's backup until Rose came back. Orlando just resigned Nelson. Phoenix just signed Dragic. He was dreadful in Portland. Kings like Thomas. Utah just acquired Mo Williams. Not a single one of those teams would have signed Felton to be their starter.

And here we go...Melo will be the reason for the new CBA hurting big league teams by the end.

It's not about "Lin"
It's about being tired of supporting an organization that continues to misuse opportunity, resources, and waste the support of fans that live in on of the most expensive places in America. Pat Riley for crying out cloud went to Miami and has the same amount of chips as we do for our history. It's embarrassing and ridiculous!
The lakers, Yankees, celtics have a ton of rings. The Knicks should have more than two. I could go on and on... You're not dealing with bandwagon fans here. I've been a fan since the 93. However, if Dolan f's this up. He gets no more of my time and money. F! Fandom! There are more important thing in the world to do than be played by a business for your time, money and most importantly OUR HEARTS!

Let's make one thing abundantly clear: If Raymond Felton and JR Smith are crucial parts of your team, you are not a championship contender.
If they play small supporting roles to shore up our team, then fine.

We will match. For the first time in the last two years we will actually have guard depth. we were left with Anthony Carter and Toney Douglas in 2011 and then Baron and Bibby in 2012 (and actually bibby and douglas).

i am not even doing a felton versus lin thing because i appreciate them both, but it's nuts to say lin has more success without d'antoni than felton. lin played a few games with woodson. felton played half a season with karl and several years with brown and did just fine.

It's cute how you're arguing that Lin posting 18.2/7.7 in his second season is actually a good reason to cut him out. If any of our others rookies did that in his second season we'd be hanging on to him for dear life, but now that Lin's done it, it's time to bring in Fatty Felton to replace him? I'm a Melo fan too, but your hatred doesn't make sense to me all.
Im not arguing that. I want Knicks to match Lin. But lets not try and make it seem like Lin is a lock too put up numbers like those. I think Lin will put up very similar numbers to what his season average was 13-15 ppg 5-7 apg.

Maybe we took Felton so Houston couldn't have him as a "f you" while matching the sheet leaving them with no options

look, felton's contract does not suggest that he's a starter. more importantly, his play in portland last year does not suggest that he's a starter in this league anymore. i highly doubt that we brought him in to be the "win now" starting pg. i can definitely see him coming off the bench at the 1 and/or 2 spot.

Conflicting info out there, but source insists Raymond Felton's deal with New York will pay him approximately $18 million over four years.
Four years and $18 million means a contract starting at $4.2 million for 2012-2013 and ending with $4.8 million in 2015-2016 ($4.6 million in 2014-2015).
If true, that's awful. The funny thing is Felton received less money back in 2010 : two years and $15 million.
Frankly it makes no sense. The contracts of our best players will expire in 2015 and we already commit to some role players (Novak, Felton) after 2015.
The Rockets new offer sheet only added $6 million and Felton will be paid $4.6 million in 2014-2015 so Knicks better not use the tax as an excuse if they elect not match Lin's offer sheet. That's BS. If you're afraid of the tax in 2015 then don't sign Novak and Felton ($8 million combined).

Man... Felton was a top HS player, well the best in fact, a top college player and a champion, and a top5 pick in the draft, he also was a really good starter for a PO caliber team before D'Antoni.
What was Lin before Mike D? could you please tell me?
he led his high school to a major upset championship of a juggernaut and was the first california high school basketball player of the year to get undrafted by any div I college, he put up historical numbers in the ivy league including great games against top schools like uconn but went undrafted, then wasn't given a chance at anything but garbage minutes until d'antoni put him in as a last minute desperation move.

Knicks FO in damage control. They've been telling EVERYBODY they were going to match any offers for Lin. What "secret" information did Lin have to provide to the Rockets? LOL.
Jeremy used what the knicks said and asked the Rockets to up the offer. Basically saying, "Oh, you're going to match anything? Okay, more money for me then."
BS. Every free agent goes out there and asks for more money and the best terms. Houston upped the offer to make it extremely hard for the Knicks to match. Knicks FO clearly afraid of fan backlash and trying to make it look like Lin caused this. LOL c'mon.

That's the thing - the only chance at all the Knicks had of winning a ring in the next 3 years was if Lin played as well as he did as a starter last year. If they let him walk, they're giving up that chance completely, and with it their chance at a title.

It is about Lin. Nobody is really upset that we lost Gadzuric and Jeffries.
