I'm tying to live with it because he's 24 and the contract is probably 50 mil in the old cba which he would of got anyway. It's the new norm.

People bugging about the money don't understand the new cap. It's 100 million, not 60.

 I'm good, man. Been busy since 515 lifting and getting ready for Bar prep.

This deal...lol. I hope Atlanta matches. If they don't, ah well...at least he's young...? At least he improved in Atl? Silver lining? Help? I'm not pissed/livid, but I'm not happy. I just..."am" and I'm slightly confused why we just didn't bring back Holiday on the shorter deal for less money.

I was so happy we weren't doing anything. I blame CrunchKnicks1 and TraveyKnicks who were complaining about the lack of moves. They screwed us over with some bad juju.

What does that thing mean? How do they decide what's worth whatever amount? Seems subjective to me...

also tough to project w/ THJ as he went to D-League in '15 and really came on this past season. A season was valued at $15M

Yea you're right the entire sports world laughing at this deal and atlanta dont understand the !
"New cap" which by the way went backwards this year and will remain flat which means open space will become more and more valuable as time goes on. Sign Holiday for 5 mm per season to have a competent wing and move on.

the only silver lining I see is if there are deals lined up for Melo and Lee..if we are going all young I don't mind overpaying but we have to be going young. Can't have almost 30 million tied up at the 2 guard position.

That's projecting he falls off. What he should look at is if he produces at the same level and that would put his value around 65 million. Unless he regresses Tim is worth it. This is basically the same as a 4 year 44 mil contact under the old cap. Wes Matthews and Evan Fournier got the same contact basically. I'm still mad we ever traded him but this would give us a young prospect at every position.

This is a pretty clever strategy guys, pretending that we all hate the move so Atlanta won't match and we can steal THJ from them. Top notch acting job everyone

TheDavinciCHODE wrote:It shouldn't even be about his value in the moment. 18ish million is an overpay for a guy that will prob average 18/4/3, but it's only slightly considering the absurd deals being thrown around.

It's the short-sightedness of this deal that kills us. The fact that he will make us slightly better in the short term, not really getting us anywhere or helping our rebuild, and he will handicap our ability to sign big name free agents in the coming years or make trade deals unless he really outperforms this contract.

there's a slight chance that he does outperform it or at least live up to it, but he's not going to be a difference maker on either end.

Instead of dealing Melo, going into the tank, getting a top 5 pick and moving forward with two young stars and a lot of cap flexibility, we are going to barely miss the playoffs, select 10th or some garbage again and have no cap space when it counts.

Unless of course we trade Hardaway in a salary dump, which, I'm not sure if we would even be able to do that. And, if we even watned to do that, why on Earth would we sign him in the first place?

Bingo. Anyone supporting this deal is badly playing checkers and sure as hell doesnt understand chess.

We also should have traded Lee before the draft...

That is the old version of Hardaway Jr

New version of my Hardaway Jr isn't just a spot up shooter. He can shoot off the dribble now, there is video of it.

He also aggressively goes to the rim now, there is a lot of video of that too.

Oh, and his physical gifts? Dude hit the gym HARD last summer and gained definition, basically transformed his body. I am pretty sure even Mike Been commented on it during an MSG broadcast of a Knicks-Hawks game.

He may not be great, but we are not paying him to be great. We are paying him to be good, like Evan Fournier-good.

Please stop thinking we are getting Knicks THJr. He has improved a boatload.

I was waiting to hear your thoughts on this as well.. I definitely was ok with the stand pat approach and wait.. But this is a deal I could get behind.. If ATL matches I'm not mad either

Otto Porter got offered 100mil and everyone is Okay with it. somehow.

Otto plays on both sides of the floor. If we wanted prolific scoring, why not target a different guy in the draft?

Dont get this move, praying ATL matches!

I could understand THjr over Holiday because THjr is a professional scorer. I can understand going into the year with KP and WHG as your #1 and #2 options that might be light on offense. So I get that THjr was probably the highest ceiling offensive option out there. But that means you absolutely can't bring back Melo.

Melo, KP, THjr, and WHG is way to many options we really need to let KP take over the offense.

You let the same exact player in Holiday walk for nothing and give Hardaway 71 million plus the poison pill. Sounds like the Knicks.
