It's the short-sightedness of this deal that kills us. there's a slight chance that he does outperform it or at least live up to it, but he's not going to be a difference maker on either end.
Instead of dealing Melo, going into the tank, getting a top 5 pick and moving forward with two young stars and a lot of cap flexibility, we are going to barely miss the playoffs, select 10th or some garbage again and have no cap space when it counts.
Unless of course we trade Hardaway in a salary dump, which, I'm not sure if we would even be able to do that. And, if we even watned to do that, why on Earth would we sign him in the first place?

the only silver lining I see is if there are deals lined up for Melo and Lee..if we are going all young I don't mind overpaying but we have to be going young. Can't have almost 30 million tied up at the 2 guard position.

New version of my Hardaway Jr isn't just a spot up shooter. He can shoot off the dribble now, there is video of it.
He also aggressively goes to the rim now, there is a lot of video of that too.
Oh, and his physical gifts? Dude hit the gym HARD last summer and gained definition, basically transformed his body. I am pretty sure even Mike Been commented on it during an MSG broadcast of a Knicks-Hawks game.
He may not be great, but we are not paying him to be great. We are paying him to be good, like Evan Fournier-good.

Added an edit saying I'm confused why we just didn't sign Holiday for less money and fewer years, but it is what it is.
We also should have traded Lee before the draft...
