The huge difference is Pop is the coach. He handles major issues internally. He occasionally will send a message thru the media, but the majority is dealt with in the lockerroom as the coach. We don't hear anything from rc Buford. We rarely hear anything about the spurs at all cause management handles that stuff
This all should have been handled internally months ago. Management messed up not fixing this months ago.
New York City vs. San Antonio
Especially in today's social media era, it's not a fair comparison. Everything that happens in NYC is under a microscope
Just look at how todays news of Phil taking calls about Porzingis got blown up. Just because he answered phone calls it got made into a whole circus show.
I don't know...in today's media there's gossip everywhere...plenty of gossip in clev right now.
Phil handles things a lot different then Pop...cant see Pop writing tell all books like Phil did or have a pop files.
Phil just seems to feel a need to always speak his mind, while pop is way more close guarded.
Imagine if a NY coach made a Knicks player cry on the bench in today's time, like Pop made Tony Parker cry when he was young. The media would eat it up and turn it into a circus show. Also remember when Popovich and Stephen Jackson had that feud and they just cut Jackson because he didn't want to admit to the other players that they were better than him as was requested by Pop, the media would be all over that story. We don't hear about San Antonio and how they do things because frankly nobody really cares, it doesn't sell stories, but NY does. Phil also retired twice, he's had a lot more free time to write books, Pop hasn't. Although I do agree they are different in their own ways, Phil is older and more experienced as a coach and has been a part of 3 of the biggest markets in the entire country ( NY, Chicago, LA) so he's been dealing with a lot more pressure his entire career. We don't know how Pop would handle those bigger markets, but he does seem to have a short fuse so I can imagine him giving the NY media nonstop juicy material that they would just love.
