By not having him in publicly rumored discussion, he thinks he's not in the running or at the bottom of our consideration list...
If you're trying to be a hc for the first time, and a Knicks job is available, it's maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity just as he's ascending to be a hc... from this perspective he is the one that has more to lose.
I mean let's face it if JB was a can't miss coach prospect, teams like the Wizards, or even Bucks or Blazers would fire their coaches Doc/ Chauncey to hire him, but he's not. He may be up and coming but the reality is he just got passed over for another assistant on his same Cavs team, which unfairly but basically says he's not even their top assistant.
If the Knicks suddenly reach out to him and offer him $5 mil per instead of the $10-12 mil per top coaches command thesedays, he is really in no position to turn it down. A position in a big market, with a championship-worthy/ready roster (it's not like he has to grind it out on a team like the Wizards, a blemish to his coaching record to start if they don't make playoffs for the next few years), a real chance to make a name for himself, even if we don't make the Finals, I think he can EASILY improve on our 51 win record. That in itself would be a good start to ANY coaching career.Capn'O wrote:Regarding Jenkins, he's kind of like a reverse Thibs (in terms of style) where people have essays against what he does but he gets results.
I like TJ too... like Bill Simmons said everytime I watched the Grizzlies in years past, I couldn't help but think it's a well coached team. They tweaked things by having less screens with Ja which was not TJ's doing.

No matter the circumstance he has no leverage, no teams are currently considering him like teams were considering JJ Redick or even Thibs himself back when he was still assistant with Celtics
He'll go to Alaska Sabertigers if it was the 31st team if it means landing his first hc job... he's just trying to get ANY NBA hc job... and in NY it's too good to be true for him imo, he can't turn anything down we offer him at this point.

it would be wild if the Cavs gave the Knicks permission to interview Atkinson, then the Cavs promoted Bryant to Head Coach

Are we doing all this just so we can low ball Bryant? Otherwise I don't see the point of wasting anyone's time. Why would the Rockets give the OK to interview their coach when the man is proven to be the top coach in the league.? Other than Kidd none of these folks make much sense.

Dolan wanted to fire Thibs several times before but stopped by Leon Rose (it came down to if you fire Thibs, I would leave too). Only this time Rose didn’t intervene. This doesn’t sound good at all.
Man. Leon Rose really screwed us over. The one time Dolan would’ve been correct especially if he wanted this done years ago
We’d be in such a better position. Oh well. At least he’s gone now. The roster is good enough that any coach should be able to get top 4 and 50+ wins. A great coach would get us to the finals handily.

Then we trade for KD and then mid season he says Atkinson isn’t the guy… again, and then he’s fired and Rick takes over. Now that would be wild

Then Donte gets traded here and says that’s what happens when they let you run the show

Remember: just because a plan hasn't been fully explained and outlined to the fans doesn't mean there's no plan. It only means we're not in the loop and, despite our hunger to know everything RIGHT NOW, we have no choice but to simpy wait and see what happens.
Yea I know but it's still pathetic to see multiple reports of us asking multiple teams permission to talk to their coach. What coach is out there that is an upgrade from what we had in Thibs? I am intrigued by Bryant but it doesn't seem like he's at the top of their list. Employed coaches seem to be tho. Just weird, never seen this before.
Make the Knicks great again!

1/6 of all nba teams rejected the Knicks from their head coach
Not bad
Let’s make it a solid 1/3

The Knicks have been more than competent for 5 years now.

Does anyone know why Taylor Jenkins was let go? He seemed to be doing a good job in Memphis.

ja allegedly hated that he took the ball out of his hands. and memphis fans say his offensive sets were ass and the assistant now head coach was the brains behind their offense
