J.R. Smith's last-second whiff left the Knicks with a sixth straight loss. But J.R. would do it again. "I think we went with the best shot," he said.

I think people are underestimating the 2015-16 Knicks. They won't win the championship but they'll probably make the playoffs. While we added solid guys like Lopez, Afflalo, and O'Quinn, I think the biggest positive impact will be the players we removed. Players like Andrea Bargnani, Stoudemire, and Tim Hardaway are not winning players and don't play winning basketball. They're addition by subtraction and not feeling pressured to play those guys will give Fisher more flexibility with the line ups. The defense will be one of the most noticeable improvements.

maybe, but you gotta understand the kid is still a rookie. While I saw some nice things he still look extremely raw in a summer league game (silly passes). No denying his talent and defensive potential.

But I see Calderon starting, he is a vet and has earned that right. Until grant takes the job off of Merritt.

Of course, And i think by Calderon starting with be a bonus for grant. Watching a veteran at work will only help him develop his skill faster.

Agreed. If Jose is healthy, he's starting. No need to throw Grant into the fire right from the get go. He'll get his minutes.

If we take Melo/Lawson and package them into 1 player we could have 1/4 of a leader --- is that a step in right direction???

"I mean, well, one, Ty, he has not demonstrated what you want from the leader of your team and a guy who they’ve handed the keys to. He’s not demonstrated the kind of leadership that you want. And you have a young kid named [Emmanuel] Mudiay coming in who I think has a chance to be a star in this league. Right now the best player on the team is Ty Lawson. As a young player in the league, you come in 19-20 years old, you oftentimes try to emulate some of the actions on the floor and off the floor of the best player because that’s one day what you want to be. So I think just from the standpoint of the welfare of Mudiay and the well-being and the growth of Mudiay, you have to get Ty Lawson and you have to move him along."

Given Chauncey's prior comments on Melo --- I wonder if we could insert Melo's name for Lawson plus Porsingis name for Mudiay
and basically reach the same result.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2015/07/iman_shumpert_1.html

On the first day of free-agency, they locked up the 24-year-old by agreeing to a four-year, $40 million contract to keep their restricted free agent in Cleveland during the remaining years of LeBron James' prime.

Not everyone within the organization had faith a deal would be completed this soon. Shumpert was a highly-coveted asset, and that made the front office incredibly nervous, I was told.

Near last season's trade deadline six teams called, offering the Cavaliers a future first round pick in hopes of prying Shumpert away, to no avail, league sources informed NEOMG. Three of those six franchises had maximum cap space this summer, thus the reason why the Cavaliers were a little queasy about Shumpert's situation.

One of the main reasons the Cavs reportedly jumped on offering Shumpert what many thought was an excessive contract is because they didn't want him to test the waters apparently due to a lot of interest he was getting from other teams with cap space (that he might end up with an even bigger offer that the Cavs would then have to match). The Kings were one of those teams. The Raptors was reportedly another. And we've seen how much those teams have dished out in free agency.

Me personally? I thought that Jackson and the Knicks could have shown JR that he wasn't wanted and that JR would have opted out anyways. Have said this from the start. But that's just me.

Also it appears that Lebron James is pushing for the Cavs to resign JR Smith (in addition to Tristan Thompson) as well. Smith apparently was friends with Lebron even before being traded to Cleveland (Thompson has Lebron's agent). Didn't know that. This also according to cleveland.com beat writers (these are paid writers, not fans writing for the fun of it).

I dont care what anyone says, Shumpert is a bum. Hes an above average defender at best and one of the worst offensive guards in the league.

i agree. but if you could have got a 1st for him, you should have. after getting one for timmy, it shouldn't be surprising that we could have got one for him.

Yep, guess that value didnt go down after all. Maximizing assets is always the right way to go.

if you really analyze it fully, we gave up 3 1st round picks in shump & tyson and used the little extra cap space that calderon's contract gave us vs felton/jr on paying lance thomas & lou amundson.

If I were Wilson Chandler I'd demand a trade to Boston just so to have the opportunity to play alongside David Lee and Gallo once again.

Interesting way to look at it....like gifting a car that could have been a down payment for the one you're currently driving. As long as Early and Thanasis become at least serviceable players, then all is good. And of course those 15 year olds we're scouting for that 2019 2nd rounder.
