There are actually a number of very credible Cavs reporters and insiders (Windhorst is amazing, a couple guys on realcavsfans.com are true insiders, etc.), and he is not one of them at all. He even said Lebron would re-sign with the Cavs for 3 years, and then go elsewhere. How much sense does it make for Lebron to decide to re-sign with the Cavs and ALSO already decide he'll re-sign elsewhere after that? What if the Cavs win 2-3 championships before that next contract? Makes zero sense.
Windhorst, however, has been reporting that he has become more confident than ever that Lebron will re-sign with the Cavs this summer. As a Cavs fan, I'm ecstatic to hear that because Windhorst truly does have great sources (unlike Triv), and does not produce junk just to get attention or make Cavs fans feel secure (unlike Triv). In fact, Windhorst is known to be somewhat of a pessimist at times (although I see him as being a realist).
Having said that, I do think your Knicks have a wonderful chance at getting a great player or two. While I think it's very unlikely Lebron will be a Knick (you're entitled to just think I'm a homer), you will surely have a very good team for the 2010-2011 season. And of course nothing is official until Lebron signs a contract, and the Knicks certainly still have a shot (unlike the other 28 teams I'd say).
Actually, it makes perfect sense. Well, not that LeDiva has already decided that's what he's going to do, but that's actually what's going to happen. I've been saying that for a while now.
Basically, LeDiva is a loser. I don't think he's ever going to be able to 'close out' the big one. He just chokes in the big ones, and shirks things when all the chips are down. So after he signs his next 3 year deal, he'll keep trying to win on his own, and fail. By the time he realizes he can't do it on his own, he'll leave. And that's when we'll get him, when he's on the downside of his career, and looking for one of his last big paydays. We're not going anywhere for 3 years anyway, so most of the fanboys here will still fawn over him in those 3 years (never mind that Walnuts won't be here at that point, Jimmy D. will still have his LeDiva dollar signs dancing in his eyes).
LeDiva's best bet is to latch on with a young stud who
does have that clutch gene. If you think Timmy, Kobe and DWhistle are too old/battered to be relied on in the next few years, then identify the next young star who wins it all, and do everything in his power to get on that team. That's why LeDiva can't sign anything more than a 3 year deal, NO MATTER where he ends up. He needs to keep his options open, since he still wants to be thought of in the same breath as Mike (though we already know he doesn't value winning as much as Mike does, because he's still more interested in flash than substance).
But it makes no sense for LeDiva to sign something now, I agree with peeps on that aspect. Not when he's so close to the summer, and only months away from fanboys everywhere lapping up his every move and gesture. That's what he really wants. The attention and spotlight.
Now with all that said, this postseason is still Cleveland's best shot to win it all. The field is as wide open as ever. If Kobe makes The Finals, then LeDiva is toast (and the Lakeshow is as shaky as ever these days). But if not, then it's up to Orlando, which I think has the best shot at a ring this year, over all others. I might put Dallas and Utah just a hair's breadth above Cleveland though, if they meet the Cavs in The Finals. But unless Kobe can flip that switch, I'm expecting a new team to win the championship this season (either Orlando, or Dallas).
