good post... I hate the fact that the mods lock up good threads prematurely. When i thread stands it receives more attention thereby more replies.

But when it is burying into some humongous merged thread of death the individuals topics get max 2 pages of coverage before some other merge topic overthrows it.

Sure but you have to add in his other marketing opportunities, not to mention the base salary, etc.
Whether it is enough to make him a billionaire, I couldn't say.
Still the point is simply that he can make more money in NY than anywhere else -- the stock aspect just adds a lot more to this key point.

Now that will be something MJ never done, lol.

Honestly, I really don't care who owns the Knicks. All I want is for them to win. Of course I want a GM/owners to be basketball fans and know the game. I dont want just business man because those guys kill the game.

HAHA I was thinking about buying some call options for that reason. Hard to argue with someone who puts money where his mouth is!

THIS IS LEBRONS TEAM. Wade practically begged LeBron to cum, of course he had to give up some things to convince Lebron that it was worth it to join him in miami.

When I saw the forbes I started laughing. Pretty hard. I ran over to the realgm knicks board ready to see the crazy thread and ridiculous posts. I was going to make a sarcastic remark because im sure the thread would have been flooded with bulls fans and there deng trades and there "but we have rose" posts. "Top that CHI, we are giving the MF'er the dam team" (I know we are not)

To my delight I see a well thought out and written post from a poster that proved his intelligence to me in a volvo thread. (yeah I saw it and remembered)

One of the most frustrating things I have had to deal with here besides the bulls infestation is trying to explain to fellow knick fans that this is a business move more than anything. At 25 years old, with that talent, and a unlimited bank account winning will come.

I think knick fans are so down they have forgotten the power of the city. Of the garden. This team has stunk for around 10 years and is still in the top 3 in earnings. I know there are some other factors involved but this is a business move. Many have been blinded or dont know.

Im still not invested into this until I see the press conference. AND a 5 year deal. The knicks are a option because of NY, MSG, and Dolan. Finally Dolan is a advantage.

EXCELLENT Write up ITGM. Its not even about the prediction. I think you broke this down in a way top help people better understand the business potential available here to this young athlete. Great post.

Don't believe it's CBA circumvention since a rule pretty clearly specifies that a player can buy publicly traded stocks of a team or affiliate.

The more poignant question is, is it insider trading if LeBron, knowing that he will join the Knicks, buys MSG stock in advance of his signing? Without looking up case law, my immediate reaction would be that it would since it's pretty unethical, but my general understanding of securities law makes me wonder if LeBron would even be considered an "insider" under US law. He's not an employee (yet) or corporate officer/director, yet clearly he has material non-public info that would concern the stock. But then again, he owes no duty to the stockholders.

Anyone more knowledgeable on securities law know the answer? Can someone, particularly a celebrity, buy stocks of a company they plan on joining, knowing that the stock will rise with his addition?

wow great post.. thought out nicely.. it made me even more proud (if thats possible) to be from NY.. we have the only fans that can break a situation down to the L-M-N-O-P and truly think out the box... meanwhile cleveland is stuck remixing songs and signing petitions.. NYK

I agree.

The elbow, the disinterest (quitting on his guys), the locker room shindig after they were eliminated,
the cryptic post-game and allusions to his "team", the Chi rumor, the call to Derrick Rose, the Eddy workout talk.....it's like they're trying to throw everyone off their (for the past two years) obvious scent. Lebron is coming here. Remember a guy that posted here a while ago talking about his friend that wasn't a sports fan that overheard some businessmen at a baseball game talking about Lebron James coming to the Knicks in 2010? Maybe you don't but I distinctly do. He said the guys were high-fiving and talking about Lebron. When dude realized what they were talking about he butted in and basically said "Yeah, that's what a lotta people think...". The business guys stop him in his tracks, telling him this isn't some wishful thinking or rumor...this is what it IS and the plan is in motion! They said it was way above basketball and a "done deal" on a much, much higher level. Of course the dude got flamed in true-to-form board fashion but that's neither here nor there.

Now as far as this "public trading" thing...did Wes NOT know about this loophole? Isn't this a new concept, one the Knicks didn't have in place say, 2 years ago? Did Lebron not know? No other team in the league has this sort of provision? How will Chicago/NJ/LAC bid against that? Will they even make a bid? Why haven't the Nets or Bulls hired Coach Cal yet? I mean, if Lebron is part of the deal and these teams just happen to have no coach...what's the hold-up? Do THEY know it's a done deal too? Or even more interesting what rumor is gonna counteract this one? Is David Stern in on it? Donnie was HIS "recommended" hire. Hired to see to it that everything is done within the rules...and I can't confirm, but I recently heard that Wes is STILL on the Knick payroll.

Alright....rarely post....just confused about one thing and would like to get it clarified.

I know that Lebron can buy shares of MSG stock (which i believe also has to do with the Rangers and Radio City music hall) but how is he making all this money off of the stock unless he invests before he signs, which I think is illegal (insider trading). Once he signs, the value will be reflected in the new price and this is the price he can purchase shares at. Not a bad thing to invest in something where you are the most important employee, but it doesn’t seem like its some great deal for LeBron. Idk, I would think that there would be better financial opportunities for him elsewhere.

Just my feeling….i guess my question is: is he allowed to purchase the stock now and argue after the fact that he didn’t know where he was going?

Code?

In Chicago to play golf at a suburban country club -- yes, he still gambles on 10-foot putts -- Michael Jordan was asked The Question by one of the organizers. No, it wasn't whether LeBron James' mother had an affair with loaded-gun-toting teammate Delonte West, a rumor her attorney strongly denies, but, rather, where her precious Bron Bron will play next. Normally, Jordan doesn't speculate on the business of others, but this week, he couldn't resist in opining like everyone else.

"Chicago,'' he said.

The billioinaire athlete quote was made in an offseason what 4 years ago when he was 21 years old? I'd hate to bring logic to the Knicks LeBron forum but my guess is that his desire to win a championship has made the desire to make even more money he can't count seem pretty irrelevant. Especially given the fact that he is now at the point in his career when it's no longer WHEN but IF he will ever win titles.
'
Now I'm not saying you guys can't build a championship caliber team to help your case to bring him here but stop with the "this is a no brainer stupidity" when you are basing it on his desire to earn a billion. You can make counter arguments about earning potential in almost every other city - (e.g. Miami with taxes, Cle with cost of living index, etc).

Well as I see it:

1)Cleveland can offer the biggest contract but not a situation where he is gonna be in a position to win the title. That much is obvious now.

2)Chicago can offer a good team that might be a title contender but they can't offer the most money.

3)He is not going to Miami to join Wade's team period. Mark this and you can quote me on that.

4)New York is the only team (other than Miami) that can offer two max contracts, extra opportunities like this to make money and a terrific situation to play for a title. Not to mention the best city(Lebron's favorite) and MSG .
No matter what Lebron does I appreciate the effort our organization put into this whole thing. We can offer Lebron the opportunity to play on a better team than in Cleveland (as long as we get that second max player), the opportunity to make the most money probably, the best city and the best arena. If Lebron doesn't join, shame on him.

I think if this article is true than this is just great great news guys. This IS gonna factor into Lebron's decision make no mistake about it. I don't know how much money he can make out of this but even if it is "just" a few millions , it offsets the money advantage that Cleveland holds and puts ut at an advantage over the other teams. Great great move.

Updated Lebron odds:

Cleveland 50%

New York 40%

the rest 10%

Man I still can't believe what a great great move this was by Dolan or whoever initiated this. IMO this is the biggest Lebron/Knicks related news in the past two years. I'm not sure what type of money we are talking here but if Forbes talks about it it can't be peanuts. Seriously guys, the thing I was worried about was Lebron staying in Cleveland because of that extra year--no matter what type of athlete you are it is always tough to leave 30mill. on the table but this does not seem to be an obstacle anymore as obviously New York seems like the place Lebron can make the most money.
