more like O.J Mayo in my opinion.

except Mayo shot close to 41% from 3

looking at Mayo's current numbers, Shumpert may end up shooting better than him this season.
Mayo wishes he could defend like Shumpert.

Not thrilled about the pick, but I would have been more pissed if we traded away Toney or Landry to move up in a crapshoot draft. At least we didn't get a one-dimensional scorer.

Do you guys have any idea how athletic Iman Shumpert really is? Who do you guys consider the most athletic PG in the league? Derrick Rose? Russel Westbrook? Well look at these stats.... As you will see, he is every bit as physically gifted as these guys. Also, hes an 80% shooter from the free throw line and has good form so he should develop a better shot. If you watch him play, he's extremely comfortable with the ball in his hands and has a great dribble. With billups teaching him (just like he taught westbrook and rose in the olympics), he will definitely get better. i LOVE the pick.

Height W/O Shoes
Iman - 6-4 1/4
Rose - 6-1 1/2
Westbrook - 6-2 1/4

No Step Verticle
Iman - 36.5 inches
Rose - 34.5 inches
Westbrook - 30 inches

Max Verticle
Iman - 42 inches
Rose - 40 inches
Westbrook - 36.5 inches

3/4 Court Spring Times
Iman - 3.18
Rose - 3.05
Westbrook - 3.08

Agility Test
Iman - 11.10
Rose - 11.69
Westbrook - 10.98

Could be a Rajon Rondo type of pick...not saying he will be as good. But that he'll surprise alot of people.

Iman is athletic, yes we all know this. But will he have the ball in his hands all the time when we are running ISO's for Melo and Amar'e? At the end of the day I want basketball players, not to be the Oakland Raiders of the league.

Very impressive. If he can improve that jumper, he can be something special.

That's a whole another problem within itself. If we're running iso with Amar'e and Melo instead of constant ball movement then we'll never be great anyways. When the team stands around and run iso offense, they struggle.

So how far do you think Shumpert would have lasted had we not taken him? There were many rumblings from Minnesota, Denver, and others supposedly.

That's the problem when you have these types of teams, they tend to revert to ISO's a lot or when things get tough. Also I'm not buying Iman's biggest selling point as long as Douglas is here. I actually feel more comfortable with the ball in Toney's hand [Did I really just type that?] than Shumpert. I mean Iman has the potential and his defense is already here but I don't know. Pick rubs me the wrong way really.

It is ridiculous how nearly every post in this thread is about comparing him to another player. He's not Mardy Collins, he's not Mayo, he's not Westbrook, he's not whatever the other names were, he's Iman Shumpert, with his share of strenghts and weaknesses, and like it or not, he's a KNICK. Better get used to it, and I know he's gonna do well.
