Lowry's tougher & a better defender. Plus he's better in pretty much everything else.

If that's what you think then you haven't really watched Lowry.

Who do you see as a non-injured, adequate, available alternative?

Big idea here -- they probably would love to dump Fields. So just give them cap junk and take back Fields and Lowry.

Doing Shumpert would be stupid.

Nope! Hell no to Fields, but reacquiring Novak is fine.

So u rather take on another yr on novaks contract instead of fields

Yup! Some team will always be interested in Novak's shooting ability, no one wants scrub Landry except sentimental Knicks fans.

This is a Kyle Lowry article published before the beginning of last year. I don't think he's changed much:

Kyle Lowry is going to improve the Toronto Raptors. A lot, I think. Lowry is a really, really good player. He's effectively the best point guard cover in the game -- no other point guard gets the defensive results that Lowry does, not even Rondo or Paul (both excellent defenders, but both lay off from time to time and take games off when they're feeling under the weather). Here's a comprehensive list of the point guards that have dropped 30 points with Lowry as their primary defender for > 15 minutes in the last three years.

John Wall (38 points, 59% shooting) on January 16th, 2012.
Russell Westbrook (33 points, 56% shooting) on November 6th, 2009. (Lowry only played 19 minutes.)
Tony Parker (31 points, 65% shooting) on April 1st, 2011.
Derrick Rose (30 points, 46% shooting) on December 4th, 2010.

Tough situation for Knicks: With no first-round pick to add, NYK could be confronted w/unsavory option of putting Tim Hardaway Jr. in deal

Wow , I can't even begin to describe how heated I'd be about that.

nah. it's gonna be shump.

The Knicks do have a pick, unfortunately. But I'm not going to lose sleep over a lottery-protected pick. Anything more is sheer stupidity. Still negotiating against themselves on giving up anything much.

compare felton's numbers last season with lowry's career numbers. it's an upgrade, but not that big of an upgrade over a healthy felton.

Not worth Shump or Hardaway Jr. unless they throw in additional compensation.

teams know how desperate the knicks are to keep carmelo, so they end up asking for a lot in return.

Klay Thompson is worth a 2014 Lotto Pick not Kyle "effing" Lowry

Which brings me to my original question, why are the Warriors interested?

Felton and MWP as Stein mentioned or JR for Lowry. Those are fine. Hold the young assets like THjr, Shump and 1sts. We're going to need those.

Also I dont understand why some act like Ujiri is Jerry West. Hes an ok Gm but he also gave out the Fields contracts and traded Bargs (who although not an all star is still decent) for Novak (who disappeared in the playoffs) and Camby (who is cap filler material). Hes made his share of bad moves.

I doubt you guys throw him in just to get this done. I think this might be a three way with you guys giving up Raymond and maybe shump tops.

Fields is a scrub, NOVAK can atleast spread the floor.

NOvak offers zero defense.. fields a lil...novak cat shoot off of cuts and is easliy negated FIelds at least can..

Landry can't shoot, pass, defend, or score. He can rebound and give you a nice dunk every now and then but that's it.

Lowry expires next summer. The Knicks would have to be the dumbest organization in the history of sports to include THJR a long term rookie contract who will open up cap space in 2015. Also what other team is Lowry going to? What can the warriors realistically offer?

In terms of defending pure point guards, you can't really beat the skillset Lowry brings to the table. He's tough-nosed, aggressive, and doesn't bite on fakes. He reaches in without overcommitting and changes his balance as quick as any player I've ever seen, allowing him to go from pressuring the ball to taking a charge in basically no time flat. He switches his momentum while moving backwards or to the side beautifully -- simply put, the man has a ridiculously adept command of every single skill that makes a guard a good defender, and he uses them all to their greatest extent. Lowry is a fantastic point guard defender. His lacking height (he's 6'0") hurts him a bit when he's forced to cover larger guards -- he's not nearly as effective on players that are 4-5 inches taller than him, or more. So players like Rondo might be more valuable, defensively, for their ability to shade over to the larger wings without too much trouble. But Lowry's a game-changer for a team defensively, and he roundly mucks up any truly point guard fueled offense his crew faces. (Why do you think the Spurs have had so much trouble with the Rockets the last few years, anyway?)

Gambles a lot but solid. Not as good as his Houston days, but good nonetheless.

I'm honestly not trolling, but how the hell does NY pick up a call from Masai after he's destroyed the Knicks time and time again?

Carmelo better take a deep discount, I'm talking 5/100M if we give up either a Pick or one of Shump/THjr
