Inexperienced? Eeeh. He's been around as long as Bud, Joerger, Stevens, etc. Not tenured yet but he's been coaching since 2010.
OK, potato, pohtatto, still very early in his coaching career is perhaps a better way of saying it

His results are fine so far, obviously, but I'm not blown away yet. He's not bad when it comes to in-game adjustments and substitutions but he's not preternaturally great either. He pulled the wrong strings two nights ago.

I think anyone that remembers jeff as a player think's a nice guy, that whole jazz team was dirty to the bone. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out he was beating the younger players with a phonebook just so it wouldnt leave bruises

Yeah Jeff played in the elbow days and held his own. He would've flushed Draymond down the toilet after crapping on him first.
I heard he drips hot wax on the players at half time and Mrs. Honacek sometimes shows up and flicks them with her bullwhip

He does things in games that I do in 2K, it's unreal. First time we've had a coach that actually does something you're at home thinking, gets an A from me. Hope he stays, learns and grows with this organization.

I give him an honest B. He has proven to be extremely efficient with timeouts. He also isn't afraid to experiment with different lineups, though sometimes I question the decisions in his rotations (I.E: taking out players that are hot like KOQ vs PHE). Obviously the team still has to figure out chemistry and whatnot, and the fact that we're 14-11 right now is a huge improvement from last two seasons. I think Jeff is the type of coach that learns from every single game, so hopefully that can be a sign of some great seasons to come.

God in Latvian. I'm not Latvian, though, but I think it's cool to learn new things associated with the background of people you like or follow, especially when you're not familiar with that culture/background/ethnicity.
For example, I didn't know their language was called Latvian as well as the people being Latvian. Usually, that's not the case so I had to look it up.

I'm not sure how similar a coach's in game moves are to a random internet person's in a video game is the proper metric to judge their performance but I would agree with the rest of what you said.
I play some serious team ball on 2K unlike most who chuck with one playerSeriously though, how often do we think to ourselves what the coach should do during games? We do it in the game threads, it's natural, and when I play, I do the same, only I actually have the power to make the change lol. For example, I've stayed with our bench players in a damn video game, and when I see Carmelo, Rose or Noah riding Jeff's pine while guys like Baker and Co. are cutting a 14 point lead I say holy ****, this guy has some balls to actually do this. It's working and he's sticking with it. Granted, he may have for too long last night, but at least he coached.
Kyle's stat line in the same game was tremendous, but his pick and roll defense was killing us in the 4th, that's why he got pulled. Many didn't see this, just saw that Kyle was scoring and thought Jeff didn't know what he was doing. The reason why I was flabbergasted last night was because I'VE PULLED KYLE IN GAMES FOR THE SAME REASON. I saw what was happening last night on defense but thought Jeff wouldn't do it because Kyle is scoring and this is real life, but he did and it blew my mind! That's what I meant lol.
Fisher for example would stick to his rotations and take out a scorching Melo in the first quarter, or Woodson who would match up but never force the other coach to adjust to his lineup ("The east is biiiigggg, mannn!!!) I remember a common question being asked a lot during Woodson's tenure....."Why is he so stubborn?"
All I know is it feels good watching him, feels like we have a Stevens/Kerr/Walton kind, a logical thinking coach. Here is a nice quote from Earl Watson/Phoenix coach about Jeff:
“Jeff is very creative and needs space to be creative,’’ Watson said before the Suns stunned Hornacek’s hot Knicks, 113-111, at Talking Stick Resort Arena. “He understands basketball on another level. His mind works like a fluid puzzle. You never come out with the same ATO [after timeout play]. He sees something, he’ll change it. Jeff is super creative.”
Yeah I'm just messing with you. I've been very pleased with him so far. The offense is actually really nice to watch when everything is clicking and he clearly has been at least partly responsible for the huge leap KP has taken forward on offense. Perhaps most importantly compared to every coach we've had probably since JVG it doesn't appear that Jeff shoots himself in the foot. Fisher may have lost us 5-6 games last year due to sheer stupidity and I don't think that's an exaggeration but Jeff has never put us in a position to lose by making poor choices. It's still early and of course he'll make some mistakes but you don't get the sense that they'll be repeated or of the magnitude of some of these other guys we've suffered through.

Re: Grading Hornacek
I'm finally ready to give PHIL JACKSON AND JEFF HORNACEK their grades and I'm giving both of them (D) grades.
And yes, I fully expect the Knicks to make the playoffs this season, but what is the ULTIMATE goal for each team in the NBA?
The Knicks should Tank for long term success, because PHIL and JEFF has failed to fix the ROOT of the Knicks problem. Defense has always been the Knicks biggest problem for a long time and Phil failed to address it by not hiring the proper coaches. I'm done with this team for the season, because I already saw the future. The Knicks will overwhelm scrub teams with their current talent, which should help them make the playoffs, but they can't beat elite teams or solid playoff teams like Boston in the playoffs. And Jeff, you need to start O'Quinn or Willy over bench player Noah at center.
During the off season I kept preaching defense. I even had to add ball movement and effort. We are almost at the middle of the NBA season, and the same Knicks problems keep getting repeated when they play against good teams.
KNICKS FUTURE PREDICTION:
The Knicks will flirt with the playoffs for the next 3 or 4 season if they can keep the current players they have. Probably making the playoffs 3 out of 4 times for the next 4 seasons, only to get eliminated in the first round because of POOR defense, poor effort and poor ball movement under Jeff Hornacek. They might get lucky and advance to the second round, but that is as far as they will go. And when Jeff, Noah, Melo and Rose are no longer on the Knicks 4 years from now, they will be a lottery team again trying to build around KP. Oh, and Phil will be in L.A. polishing his 11 rings. MY advice to you Dolan is to think Defense when choosing your next GM or just get in touch with me if you can.
Merry Christmas

Re: Grading Hornacek
I'm giving him a D what are we 30 games in ? And still this team keeps playing like absolute inept trash on defense . They can't beat top teams in the east or solid teams that struggle (Boston) So what are they doing really ? Just trying to make the playoffs to get swept by Boston, raptors or cavs ? It doesn't make any sense this team can't win top teams with there current roster, its just that simple .
Get some good guys in here that know how to play defense and shoot the ball .This current squad is too inconsistent and just too unreliable
And I also think they need to fire rambis ,The guy is a joke and Phil needs to stop being an idiot and hire competent coaches .

Re: Grading Hornacek
I'm giving Hornacek a B. Lost to Boston at home in a game where we got outplayed and outhustled but still 2-1 on the homestand. This team has been together for about 30 games so it will take time to gel...
Defense is definitely an issue but trades can be made, and players can be signed. To say Jeff doesn't preach defense isn't fair and likely false..

My C vote is looking real good. I'm still not sold on this man as coach.
