that is a very small sample size... but if you compare that to other guards in the league, it is higher than Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, D'Angelo Russel, Kemba Walker, Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard.

Again, I am only using the 7 games that he has played with us. If you combine his NY and Dallas stats, it's at 8.9 potential assists (which is still the highest out of all the players on the knicks). I didn't want to use that though because we all know how he played off the ball in Dallas so it's not really accurate of his game.

This stat is showing a growth in his play making ability. Very encouraging

His actual Assists would be MUUUUUUUUUUUCH higher if the guys left on the Team could actually hit a shot consistently. DSJ has made some GREAT drive and kickout passes. But, he’s also had some sloppy TOs too.

He really reminds me of a prime Marbury without the Perimeter shot. Once he gets an outside shot that’s consistent enough, he’ll be an INSTANT All-Star. Same if we get legit shooters.

wow, mags. that might be the most accurate comp i've seen yet. especially younger steph.

steph was a more polished passer, but this comp has really given me pause. i like it better than derrick rose, because DSJ doesn't have that tunnel vision. i trust that he sees the court pretty well, just doesn't always make good decisions. you'd think that can improve with time.

if we were hangning onto our kids and picks, then ideally KD would come and bring kawhi or middleton. but does that group have the luxury of patience with young lead guards? you want to win now, a lesser talented vet pro might be a better idea for the win-now window.

DSJ
kawhi or middleton
KD
vet goon
money makin' mitch

very interesting group. but to win in 2019, DSJ might have to take a backseat to a ring chaser type.

and if you're all-in for a chip... i hate to say, all of our beloved kids and picks are fair game for deals for proven winners.

https://abc11.com/community-events/dennis-smith-jr-returns-to-fayetteville-to-unveil-renovated-basketball-courts/5144452/
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The City of Fayetteville pulled in some star power Monday to open two refurbished outdoor basketball courts.

Fayetteville native Dennis Smith Jr., a former NC State star and current New York Knicks point guard, teamed with Under Armour for the big reveal at the Smith Recreation Center.

Growing up in Fayetteville, Smith spent countless hours honing his skills on those courts.

More than 1,000 people came out to celebrate and see the rejuvenated courts.

A few lucky people there even got a skills session on-court with Smith.

Does this stat tell you if the shots being created were good shots?
Like if I spent 50 possessions holding the ball for 23 seconds then pass the ball to a teammate to chuck up a terrible shot. Would I have 50 potential assists?

You tried too hard with that one

Any truth to the rumor that Under Armour is going to run commercials with DSJ that say, "Our shoes don't burst open and destroy your knee!" ??

DSJr isn't in good shape. He needs to lean out his body. He's carrying way too body fat similar to Mudiay. You could tell he was somewhat out of shape at the Dunk Contest.

Two examples I can give of guys who had talent but were out of shape are Harden and Oladipo. Harden was not in the best of shape early on in his career and it showed in the Finals when he was gassed out against the Heat. It wasn't until he got to Houston where he got into unbelievable shape playing under Dantoni. I don't even need to discuss Oladipo bc we've all seen the body transformation that he had and how he's taken off since then.

Facts. My favorite thing about him is that he genuinely wants to be here and wants to be a part of the process for us. He’s super excited to be a Knick. When was the last time a Knick player was embracing the challenges and the spotlight of New York? Melo..

I definitely think Pills is looking at Smiff as a long term piece. The fact that they have been trying to get him all year long speaks volumes to me. And you don’t trade KP just for cap space and picks either.

nice to see junior being coachable about nutrition. his immense talent is at risk if he doesn't take care of himself.

i remember around draft time he was talking about eating fruity pebbles every day. life comes at you fast.

Him in shape is a problem. Not saying he isn’t in shape. He just isn’t in the best shape.

yeah it helped Mudiay out even though it didn't really help him become a better PG per se

Perhaps the next thing will be hitting those FTs....

DSJr and Mitch put so much pressure on the rim, and have a lot of gravity in the PnR. Creates wide open jumpers for the wings.

It’s nice to see DSJ shown some love. His potential is star upside. Will he make it? Time will tell. But this is the guy I wanted last year and am happy we have him now.

I was always puzzled how so many people were opposed to drafting him, comparing him to Rose and not being a good passing PG. Dude has skill and is a much better passer than he was given credit for. He’s not just all athleticism and explosiveness, but he can EXPLODE.

I’ve come to like Frank and can’t wait to see what the 2 of them look like playing with each other. I just feel bad for him because I don’t think he ever really got a fair shot as the PG here. He has potential too and has been lost in the shuffle playing out of position and behind guys he shouldn’t have.

I need Mudiay gone. He can’t be a part of the plans going forward can he? If he isn’t then there is no real point to playing him anymore. Once the trade deadline passed so should have his Knicks tenure. It makes no sense to give minutes to him over your players that are here long term and a part of the future.

kid has talent but the further away from the hoop the worse his jumpshot looks.

there's so many things not in sync between legs, lift, and release. you can tell the moment he's shooting a long range shot he has zero confidence of it going in.

i hate whoever said he's stephon marbury because it's accurate, not knicks marbury ... timberwolves/nets marbury.
