I do think Perry wants a blend of a competitive team now that also has a chance to grow into a longer lasting one.

The two max slots are the now competitive portion. I don't think they'll keep all the young guys, so a portion of that can be morphed into another productive piece for winning, and still have the future portion rolling forward.

If Brooklyn plan on keeping DLO and want to sign Kyrie, they’ll have to trade Crabbe without taking on salary which may require a first rd pick. That leaves them with only 1 frp ... that’s not enough for an AD trade.

So will signing DLO first stop then from signing any max FA? Unless they trade away some of their core players?

It would surprise me if someone offered him a deal right out the gate, too many other top end players to recruit first. strange things happen of course, and yes they'd be on the clock to match. I do however think quite a few of these guys will commit rather early.

An AD trade isn't realistic for Brooklyn as they don't truly have the pieces even now to get it done.

DLo isn't a lower tier guy. He will get a max somewhere just like Tobias, Middleton and others.

If I'm a team that has no chance with the big boys, I'm offering the 2nd tier max guys a contract at 6:01pm.

He's lower when compared to Durant, Kawhi, Kyrie types. Sometimes these guys have to wait not just for signings of the bigger guys, but also trade possibilities and such. also gotta to remember these guys share same agents. The lower tiers usually wait for a variety of reasons.

I actually think having durant around could be good for player development as long as he keeps a positive attitude if we aren't winning and doesn't act like lebron try to trade the whole team and pout at the end of the bench. As long as we can find some pass first PG to distribute the ball and not someone like mudiay

But where in the world could the Knicks possibly find someone like that?

Frank can play point guard with Jimmy, KD, Knox and Mitch. No doubt. Trade Smith and some picks for AD and it's a legit defensive juggernaut. That's what's most important to me. Even without AD he's already a better fit than Mudiay or Smith Jr. He'll pass and play terrific defense without fouling. He won't need too much help on that end and can switch on any position. I'd prefer tall players as role players and Frank is that. No need to go after Rubio or Rondo, they're small, not getting faster and they can't shoot. I understand what they bring and I'd like them here, but I wouldn't want to reach in order to get them.

I’d be embarrassed to ask the best player in the world to take less than the max so we could fit two dudes who wouldn’t even be in the rotation. Durant - or anyone else - is already leaving money on the table just by picking NY over his current team.
