To add to this, I'm not saying that means he can't be a good player but not getting to see him in the NCAA tournament hurt his draft position imo. With Ja Morant some people were still insisting he was just beating up on bad teams at Murray St. even with the games against alabama and auburn, but when it came tourney time he led Murray to an upset win, a tough battle in the 2nd rd. and he was impressive in both games. Would have been helpful to see Toppin going up against some of the other powerhouses in the tournament

Yeah if Toppin sucked in the NCAA tourney then I would change my opinion on him.

I mean, I might change my opinion on him and be higher on him if he led dayton to the final 4 or championship, and so would teams

with that said it's not a 1/1 comparison because Ja wasn't 22, the upside with age was still there , with toppin it isn't, you get what you get

A whole year seems too long. That's another year of watching him play :nonono:

Plus, he will still be stealing money even if he is gone, he's owed like 4 Mil for season after next so idk if they will just let him walk and take that money for nothing.

That 4 mil probably won’t even matter unless we get giannis next summer and are trying to squeeze out every last dollar to get him a 2nd banana or something and let’s be real that won’t happen

I would just trade Randle for Batum and a 2nd round pick or 2. Charlotte wants no part of Batum anymore and while his contract is much higher he doesn't have any 2021-22 salary attached to him so its a clean slate (he's just a large expiring). And batum wont be require and usage or major playing time.

Hailburton and ntilkina on defense would be nice to see but on offense not really. You have two players in your backcourt who prefer to run the offense through teammates as facilitators but don’t really have scoring on there mind it seems like an overlap. Hailburton would work best next to a combo guard so would ntilkina.

I think Halliburton' scoring is understated. Over 15 points a game.... that's not bad at all.

His scoring ability is not impressive though. his three point shooting ability is and his pick and roll ability is. Outside of that I don’t see much versatility as a scorer I see a better shooting lonzo ball. If you play him next to Ntilkina your pretty much forcing him out of his element. I’d rather see him play next to a combo guard where he can just focus on being good at what he’s good at and Play him with Ntilkina here and there.

PG-Hailburton
SG-Scorer
SF-RJ
PF-Not Randle
C-Mitchell

Is a balanced lineup

His scoring versatility is not impressive but if that is his weakest point its not terrible. Along with being the best outside shooter, he's got sneaky good body control around the basket too, this is often overlooked...

https://www.thestepien.com/2020/02/14/tyrese-haliburton-scouting-report/
Finishing: Good finisher with very soft touch. Even though he has a thin frame and does not attack the rim that often, Halliburton has shown soft touch and body control around the rim. Crafty finishes and does a nice job avoiding contact without getting himself out of position for a good angle – he adjusts for an angle he can use without getting hit. Does not take contact well, which makes sense given his thin frame. He is able to get by with his frame due to body control, contorting his body and release angle (though can use some work here), and very soft touch Opportunistic crashing the offensive glass. Although he does not attack the glass that often, when he does, Haliburton does a nice job timing his finishes, in addition to taking smart angles to the ball, leading to some nice putbacks. Nice job using his length to get finishes off. Has nice pop going downhill off one in space

Personally I’d still just run him out there until the trade deadline next season and then see if you can move him to a contender for an expiring and late first like we did with Morris for Harkless. It’s essentially a contract year so he might put up solid production might as well try to maximize the return

Failing that you can just shut him down post deadline and don’t bring him back for year 3

I know nobody wants to watch him play until the deadline but we have to look at the long game. We still aren’t going to be good next year nothing can change that

Randle played in every game and put up the same numbers he’s always put up, it’s not his fault some people expected him to morph into Lebron James just because the Knicks signed him

cp3 is going to have him looking nice next year

People expected him to pass the ball before dribbling himself into a turnover bonanza every other time up the court. For the good of RJ he still needs to GTFO.

idk why though, in 2017/18 he averaged 3.5 turnovers per 36 and in 2018/19 he averaged 3.4 and this season for the knicks he averaged 3.3, yeah it's bad he turns it over but it's not like it was a new development or something they got the guy they paid for

No one is expecting him to be LeBron. People just don't want a player that hurts our best two young players just by being out on the court.

RJ doesn't like playing with him because he never passes and he hurts RJ's driving lanes and Mitch can't start because we would have zero floor spacing with Randle at the 4 and Mitch at the 5.

Therefor Randle needs to GTFO.

the main thing disappointing about randle is that he shot 34.4% from 3 in NO. it looked like he had been improving from 3. You give him a consistent 3 ball and make him a real stretch 4 and he could be solid. But unfortunately he regressed back to 27.7% and that kills your spacing

I'm not blaming him for being his own turnover prone, poor team chemistry self. Him being here is on Perry and Mills, I just want him gone.

The best fit with those guys RJ and Mitch has to be a stretch 4, that's why we need to go after bertans or trade for markkanen or hope knox bulks up in the offseason and works on his rebounding and 3 ball or draft someone like killian tillie who can shoot

Return to New York Knicks
