The way Thibodeau and the team are going we'll end up with a 15th pick while completely erasing Randle's and Barrett's trade value.

It’s too late for that high pick stuff. This team has already won too many games. And Thibs and the FO won’t allow them to truly bottom out from here on imo

Marbury was a superstar surrounded by worse talent than Melo. If he didn't go to the rack wrap that ball up and take numerous hits for the and1 which never got called, we would never have scored.

He was hitting shots from half court long before steph curry was in the NBA. We did him a disservice.

It is indeed too late to be among the top 3 worst teams, but we can still get into that 4-7 range easily. And with the lottery odds a pick in that range could easily end up in the top 3. But even if we ended up, at say 6, that would be much more positive than making the Play-in and in a best case scenario get swept by the Nets. I mean who in this organization and in his right mind could really look at the eastern conference landscape and really believe that challenging for 7-10 would do anything for this team?

In a best case scenario we get in as a 7th seed and lose in 5 games to the Heat or Bucks (maybe even Bulls). In a worst case scenario we get humiliated by the Nets. Do 40 wins and a first round trouncing do anything for the coaches or the confidence of the players going forward? Nope. With a top 6 pick there IS a great chance to pick up some disgruntled star in a trade or simply draft a young prospect. To me this is an absolute no brainer. Winning now and challenging for a high seed only made sense if Randle and Barrett took some further steps or at least confirmed their last season performance---instead they regressed badly.

On top of that Thibs and the FO are likely gonna run out of credit way earlier than anybody could have anticipated just 5 months ago. The Fournier signing looks terrible (Albeit not unmovable) and extending Randle also looks much more like a burden now than an accomplishment. As for Walker there is not much that needs to be said. Having a high pick will do much more for this franchise going forward than trying to win 35-40 games instead of say 28-33. There is a good chance that some of the bottom teams in the west (Portland, New Orleans) are gonna pile up some wins once Zion and CJ return.

I mean, even in a "win-now" sense it makes much more sense to tank now. We have a team that seemingly has no chemistry between the players and Thibs has seemed to have lost at least part of the players as well. On top of that we hedged our bets on two guys that regressed badly from last season. Getting a high pick will allow the FO to maneuver much much better in the offseason. This team is capped out for the next two seasons---adding only a say mid first round pick and nothing else is gonna keep this team in the dreaded 30 win range for the next 2 years.

Trading a pick to get off Randle or Fournier, or taking back dead money (Wall) is admitting they suck. So this FO won't do it, the next FO will have cover to dump Randle.

Edit:

New York fans are a "what have you done for me lately" type. We'll turn on Randle, Kemba, RJ, IQ, Thibs and soon enough Grimes too.
There are no fans, other than Euro soccer fans, with such venom and impatience.

We've booed Mariano, Messier and Jeter among other HOFs, it's our nature. That's probably why Jeter didn't shed a tear in his last game cause he dealt with us and our throng of media for soo long and was probably just tired and happy to hang them up.

But if you win here, just once, the entire Sports world recognizes the feat as forever heroic and why there is no other place like this sports minefield.

The stage is honestly HUGE and why Durant, Lebron and others wanted no part of it. They love to visit but wouldn't want to live here..

Not really sure if thats the point I was trying to make.

What I'm trying to say is that the Knicks love to acquire their star players then go half-as$ to build around their "franchise" star.

They went all in to acquire Stephon Marbury, but then wanted him to play team ball like Chris Duhon.
They got Carmelo then the team and the fans wanted him to play defense and be a play maker.
Randle was at his best when he knows the offense goes through him,. That's why he was at his best when Payton was the pg. But no, the team got Fournier and Kemba to hope Randle can be play defense and efffective with other high volume scorer on the team.

I'm not saying the team or the fans are wrong to want the team to play defense and share the ball, but you don't acquire Carmelo surround him with Bargnini and Calderon.

Tanking is impossible.

1) Players and coaches (Thibs for sure) don't tank. They care about their career and stats. Front Offices do tank. But what moves the Front Office can do to tank? Trade the vets? But the vets are not playing well. Trading the vets to tank works when your high-paid vets are way better than the rookie contract guys. It's not our case. IMO, we would have the same kind of performance without 2 or 3 vets. I would not be surprised if the team got even better without them.

2) The team will have an easy stretch for the next 30 days. We will probably have a winning record by the beginning of February. The Front Office might be tempted to be a buyer, not a seller.

Randle is not a deadweight contract. He already proved he can be quite valuable. I am saying this as someone who hated his initial signing here. Randle proved me wrong. But he has issues giving effort and playing within a system. He needs to be managed. He needs to be held accountable.

Edit:

It's also a bad business move paying to dump players for cap space if you do not plan to sign a real star.

First, get a star willing to sign with us. Then think about dumping salary to open cap space.

You're right.

The other thing is when the team was right, the coach was wrong. Marbury had a couple of decent teams and either Thomas or Larry Brown or someone would just not be right.

Good thing about Randle is he could be valuable on a team set up where he’d be a third option.

He can’t be a #1 option playing at MSG. He can’t handle it. Of course he had a career year looking for a raise when there were no fans in the stands.

Get him outta here he’s a detriment to this squad

Trade Randle jesus he's the worst starter in the NBA it's not even close, just get him off this **** team already. Trade him for ANYTHING. It doesn't matter who.

Yes it needed its own topic, everyone make one start a **** petition. This is unbearable watching this team with him on the floor.

I just finished watching the game, imagine being upset after a win. This is not fun watching this team with him.
