In the absence of Grimes, I like Cam starting... Cam can do what Fournier does: which is nothing, but with 10x better defense and deflections.
The Big 3 will take all the shots: RJ, Brunson, Randle
Fournier will light it up off the bench on kick-outs from Rose and Quick
Cam is not that much better than Fournier on defense to make up for the gap offensively.
Fournier can shoot, space the floor, and also create in a pinch. Cam does nothing on offense besides the occasional nice play.
Fournier is awful on defense.
Cam is awful all-around.
By NBA standards.
That's why Fournier needs to be the super 6th man...he's our Tyler Herro...right now, the bench looks rough
Cam's offense has been brutal, but the starting lineup has 3 players that can easily create their own shot...and they all WANT to
So Cam doesn't have any pressure to be a hero at all...If Cam can focus his energy on D, hit the occasional spot up 3, he'll be fine with the starters.
Defensively, he is elite at getting deflections. He has defensive potential...Fournier is bad and declining. In fact, if Cam played starter's minutes, say 35 mins per game, he'd be top 5 in the entire NBA in deflections. Cam is in the 96th percentile for deflections per 36. You may think that's not significant, but it is.

Similar to how not every shot at the basket needs to result in a block in order for a player to be considered a strong rim protector, not every deflection needs to result in a steal to influence a defensive possession. If the offensive team is in a half-court set and a defender deflects a pass, even if the offense recovers, the flow of that possession is now completely thrown off. Will some offenses recover the deflected pass and still execute and score? Sure, but that deflection made it a bit more difficult.
