Start Mitch. Bench Hart. End of discussion.
How do you start someone who gassed in 16 minutes? Once Mitch is in shape for more than 20 a night, I like the idea of playing him and Karl together a lot more. But for now, we need to be patient so we don't break him again. That 3rd seed isn't going anywhere.
I would have been down to see Shamet close the game in Hart's spot. He was playing better than Josh tonight.
Mitch is gassed after 15 min? What the h*ll was he doing besides eating the entire year he was off? There are other aerobic exercises than running. Swimming, for one. Less and less to like about him and his injury history/effort each year.
And Leon needs to have a meeting with Thibs about the bench; as well as getting it more able to help with additions. No more 6'5" players, please. Get some young 6'8" guys - other teams do - why can't we?
Only so much cardio you can do when your ankle is recovering. Swimming is a great workout, but unless you’re a competitive swimmer, it’s a very different level of aerobic stress to basketball…which is much more stop-start.
Mitch handled 19min the other night, but GSW plays really fast and we still have a month until the playoffs to get him ready for 20+ regularly.
Thibs has never been great at using his bench, but our bench minutes this season are down 20% from any season before and 30% down from before we started consolidating talent.
So IMO this is Thibs exacerbating a problem that would’ve been an issue regardless of our coach.
The second apron just tied our hands too much and Ainge never gave in on Sims + Dadiet + WSH FRP for Kessler…which would’ve let us use Achiuwa’s salary + SRPs to get a better bench wing, instead of needing Precious to cover for Mitch.
With Mitch missing ~60 games, Shamet missing ~30, Precious missing ~20, Deuce missing 10, and the rookies not seizing their opportunities, there just haven’t been the live bodies we could put out there without watching our leads slip away.
FWIW we have seen things getting better as our competent bench guys get healthier, despite Payne’s shooting slump.
