Package Mikal to Sacramento for Sabonis for all i care. Anything is better than staying put with someone who picks and chooses when he wants to compete.
I'm a noted mikal hater but hear me out. (Nodope, lookaway I'm politicking) This marriage is fcked. I'm not against trading mikal for a better player if that's an option this summer(a 2nd creator), but he is clearly not being utilized well under thibs and neither is kat. The worry though is he is going to get paid this summer and we're going to be stuck with him.
Idk, we gave up 5 picks for rip Hamilton and are upset that he can't take elite guys off the dribble. I hate it here. The finish line is in view and were cooked. Leon fcked up.
The team is kind of built around Brunson
Like, Mikal and KAT are both 3rd options, and while you can win with a #1 and 2 #3s, you need a really good coach to overcome that, which Thibs cannot
I think both Mikal and KAT have shown enough ability to create over the course of their careers to not be relegated to just c&s role players, but neither are good enough to just give the ball and say "go score" and have them be consistent every night like Brunson
The team is not untalented, a better coach would get more out of them. Cavs are the perfect example, Bickerstaff was pretty good (and still is, look how Detroit changed this year under him) but Atkinson is better and was able to get the most out of the team
We don't need a huge shakeup, we need a new coach and just time to gel. Oldest guys in the rotation are Cam Payne and Delon Wright, everybody else is under 30. Maybe it's just sunk cost fallacy, but I don't see why we would trade Mikal or KAT unless we're getting back a real upgrade without depleting the team even more. Stick with them a bit, be patient. But fire Thibs, dude is the limiting factor.
