This team just needs to play with focus and purpose. This is an effort series. So give consistent effort.

all jokes aside, we really should be able to do this.

Feels like we're about to repeat the cycle of treating ewing and melo terribly for the team not supporting em properly.

I mean even the greatest weren't perfect - jordan and bron had there issues. So going in on Brunson feels really lame. Especially at THIS time in a game 5 playoff thread. But hey who tf am I to talk about propriety.

Brunson's one of the best offensive players in the NBA and we're lucky to have him. He's a great shot creator, leader and face of the franchise.

I don't think pointing out his flaws - which are real - in a broader point about the Nova crew should be out of bounds. I love Josh Hart, but I think it's obvious he's been chasing triple doubles to some extent, and I don't love it. I've been thoroughly unimpressed by Mikal.

However, the timing of my comment wasn't ideal, so my apologies for that. I think we're all on edge so you're entitled to reacting defensively. But I also have my frustrations with this team. For some it's Thibs, others it's KAT, fairly or unfairly. We all express our opinions, sometimes not at the best time.

Melo was a great scorer, and a great player for the franchise for some time, but he deserved some (not all) of the criticism he received.

When people take it too far is when they go to the arena to boo the best players on their team, or assume they are owed. I hated how the fanbase treated Julius, and to a lesser extent Melo before him, and wish nothing similar for Jalen. I don't think it's accurate to even suggest the comparison.

I read the first two sentences, then realized you were setting up for the Stephen A Smith move of throwing out compliments then following it with his signature "HOWEVER" leg sweep.

I want to start seeing some remnants of our offense from earlier this season when we were top 5 in the league. I don't think we have seen that kind of offense for the majority of 2025. The personnel is the same so other than coaching, I cant even tell you what the hell has gone wrong.

It’s definitely the truth if we lose, which would be extremely concerning with this core.

Teams adjusted...

-> Tall wing defender on Brunson (Thompson or Cade)
-> Agile PF on KAT so you can switch the P&R (Harris)
-> Center on Hart waiting in the paint for Brunson/KAT (Duren)
-> Remaining short guys on OG/Mikal

Almost zero adjustments by Thibs except to "let the game dictate your play"

It's that teams started putting their center on Josh, and he cannot hit threes anymore at the rate he was earlier in the year. He was shooting 40% from three on almost 4 attempts a game until January. From Jan 1st till the end of the season he shot 29% from three. This is the same thing that started happening to Westbrook, and why the Rockets were playing so small when they had him, teams guarded him with their C and he couldn't shoot them out of it.

What's happening is that if you have a big mobile center you can guard Josh with that player, and put a strong/big wing on KAT, when that happens you take can take away PnR actions between Brunson and KAT because the center who is guarding Josh will cheat off him and be ready in the lane to help on drives. You can also just switch on defense when Brunson/KAT screen because you'll have Ausar on KAT and he still will have help from the center guarding Josh.

If Josh sets a screen for Brunson, Duren hedges then recovers to Josh, and Josh isn't comfortable trying to finish with Duren guarding him. Once teams started putting a C on Josh and a wing on KAT our offense went into the dumps, off the top of my head we were 16th in ORTG from Jan to the end of the season. It's something our coach has not figured out how to deal with, and the better the shot blocker is, with better wing defenders the worse we look, it's why the Celtics annihilate us, they did that from the start of the season with Horford on Josh and Jrue on KAT. If the Pistons had a good offense we would have been cooked against them.

You pull Josh and play Mitch more to match up with Ausars minutes. They were both difference makers last game, but Ausar played 28 minutes to Mitch's 22, Mitch should be guarding Ausar the same way Duren guards Josh. KAT and Mitch were +11 net rating on the court together this season, play them whenever Ausar is out there and make them pay for playing someone who can't shoot the same way they do to us.

Also, don't let the Pistons dictate how we attack on offense, we barely run PnR between KAT and Brunson, screen and rescreen until you get Harris on Brunson. We could also try screening the screener, when KAT sets a screen for Brunson, Josh comes up to set a screen for KAT, try and get Duren out of the lane more or switched onto KAT so that he has to defend outside. We're letting the Pistons control what we do on offense.

Even if you take out Josh Hart from the starting lineup, who on the Knicks bench is good enough to be a starting caliber player on a playoff team? I’m waiting

So what adjustments do you make to fix that?

1) Run P&R with JB/KAT anyway... it can lead to an open JB three, a driving lane for JB, a pop for a KAT three (which Brunson doesn't look for unfortunately), or a KAT post up at the free throw line against the switch which would force a double or a high percentage post up (Thibs doesn't have them do this part either... see how Boston executes this with KP to excellent effect...)

2) Hart to the bench. Either Mitch or Deuce starting.

3) KAT setting picks at the baseline for OG/Mikal to curl off of. Then he posts his smaller man closer to the basket after setting the picks.

4) More Mikal/OG post ups throughout the game.

Thibs has hardly done any of these except for #4 on occasion.

The guy that is averaging 2.3 fouls in only 17 minutes a game and is shooting 27% from the free throw line and even has Detroit now hacking him just to put him on the line so they can live with him shooting those bricks at the line is the solution?

Robinson has shown no signs of being able to play starters minutes and he’s not fixing anything offensively. I do think our defense has been better with him on the floor but offensively still the same struggles
