I think you may be overlooking that the team will need to move the ball in general now, and that can cause a change in their ability to get open shots. It depends on the coach and whether they take on a new identity, but we've seen teams lose their most talented offensive player and get better before. It seems more common than rare actually.

Gay leaving Toronto, Cousins leaving Sac ... to take two recent examples that come to mind. Both those teams started trending up, at least in the brand of basketball on the court ... which is hard to measure objectively. The wins followed for Toronto and they will for Sac too.

You can say They got Lowry and DeRozan, two good individual scorers, but do we really know whether guys like that can ever emerge if there is someone like Melo at the top? And yes I know Melo is better than Gay. Still same principle.

KP struggled in a lot of games without Melo. Everyone likes to kill Melo but he still draws double teams, except for a handful of the top wing defenders that could defend him straight up.

That's becuase he wasn't used to being the first option. If you watch the games, you'll see that he was able to get off the shots, but was rushing it, or off. That'll get better with more reps

This might actually force KP to learn some post up moves which will make him an all around better player.

olympics melo, dad melo, fat melo. we experienced every kind of melo. too bad his best years were at denver and we didnt really get to see denver melo . he was much more dominant as a scorer. we only got a glimpse of that in 2011.

I would welcome Lin back with open arms if he were traded. Lin mentoring Frank and distributing to KP/Willy with THJ on the wing would be fun to watch.

We should be in good position. If the Cavs are offering osman, 1st round pick and expirings then morey has to come up with a better deal. If he can't then just take the Cleveland deal and we will actually have won a trade. 1 first round pick and a good young prospect without taking back any bad contracts is a win.

This comes close to meeting our requirements. First round pick albeit more like a 2nd round as late as clev will pick. Young Prospect, cap relief. Now time for Cleveland and Houston to start bidding if this is true.

Play Hardball, be patient and smart. You can only remove the laughingstock stigma one win at a time. We need to win this trade. Winning cures all. Build a team that can grow toward contention. Then we have an opportunity to add some pieces to put us over the hump.

At this point we can only get there one win at a time. Front office, on the court , you name it. We have to win. If tanking next year en rout to another big piece, then were winning.

If the young guns go out there and exceed expectations, we again are winning.

If Melo doesn't get traded because we stood our ground, then regardless of the backlash, were winning.

He's got the most go ahead field goals made within 5 seconds or left in clutch time since like 06. Once Melo is gone your problems will still be there. It's the owner the one who you have to get rid of.

the knicks will run more and get more easy points. but when they get forced in the half court they're gonna be really bad. they have no real point. they have no great individual scorer. you will see a lot of hero ball from timmy or kp because there will be no other option.
