This is the Kentucky DNC putting their large thumb on the scale to make sure that McGrath pulls through. Or have I read this wrong?

And Maxine Waters and the CBC are rallying behind Eliot Engle instead of black/progressive challenger Jamalle Bowman.

Absolutely disgusting.

These guys had decades to make a difference.

Listen, I appreciate what Eliot has done for Kosovo as an Albanian. But it's time to change things up. And it's about time Black America had their own looking out for them. No more of these posers and puppets.

Such a shame. Apparently Louisville is only going to have one polling station. And that's where more of the black population is. So this hurts Booker a lot imo.

I don't wanna hear the establishment bitch in November about voter suppression when they are ok with progressive voter suppression.

CBC is a part of the establishment. Their goal is to support their own incumbents and Engel has done some things to support the CBC over the decades. But it’s about maintaining power

So the "B" part of their title really means they are a clique, not that they want to empower other black people (unless it directly benefits them of course)? Nice!

B for Bingo. Basically they support the incumbents and - in return - they get more power by having their reps chair different committees in the house.

It’ll probably fail for Engel tho

They have - unwritten? - rule about supporting incumbents I believe. I seem to recall AOC and Pelosi knocking head over this policy.

NY fam, it's your turn to rock and yall got some great options.

Read on Twitter

Jamaal Bowman vs Elliot Engle will be the race that draws the most attention. It'd be another big statement win if Bowman pulled off that dub and he truly is one of the best potential newcomers in any race (Bowman and Shahid Buttar in Cali are the two I think stand out most abover everybody). There's also Samelys Lopez who's great and some state level candidates I really like such as Salazar and Brisport. Let's see if the momentum in NYC continues for lefties...also, hoping that AOC absolutely dominates just to punctuate the money that was waste trying to hurt her long term chances at higher office from the NY machine.

On another note: Voter Suppression pilots continue during the primaries...precedents being set now will be scary if they get stretched further in November.

yep indeed. Bowman better win. It would be sad if the people of the Bronx & Westchester can't deliver the W.

The KY situation is bad, though from what I've read locally apparently many KYans already voted with mail-in ballots for the past month and in-person since last Monday. From initial counts, turnout should and will exceed 2008 levels. Hopefully those votes go to Charles Booker.

Yeah, I'm hearing that the turnout is gonna be strong but that sounds like it's in spite of some shaky decisions that have backfired either accidentally or on purpose in previous iterations. The article below does a nice job of laying out and explaining concerns, here's a cliff's notes for anyone that wants a quick version.

- It's been a consistent story that some people aren't receiving the absentee ballots they requested across most states. This doesn't have to be nefarious, just a combination of many more requests and lack of preparation. But this is happening in KY as well.

- But that makes it tougher to just close polling stations. When you consider that a county with just under half of the entire black electorate for the state is down to 1 polling station. That can easily become problematic. Overall it's gone from 3700 to 200 polling stations.

- And when you consider prior examples (Georgia of course), this is a situation to watch carefully. They lauded mail-in efforts and closed stations in GA, which led to an absolute mess. So this is a situation to watch for, not just at the turnout numbers but to keep an eye out for how the polling stations hold up in terms of wait times. It looked solid this earlier when I checked though I admit.

They really screwed over Booker. I honestly don't know how this doesn't leave a sour taste for black voters.

You may know Ava DuVernay for making the Selma film. She also has a documentary now on Netflix called 13th.

Good on Booker for doing that. But I think the damage is already done.

How many people already left the line thinking they missed their chance?

How many people can't stand in an endless line because they got work tomorrow morning?

Brilliant idea only having one polling station in Louisville.

I read somewhere that not only the line was long, but the line of people waiting just to park to get in line to vote was long too so hopefully not many left.

To her credit, McGrath also filed an injunction to keep Jefferson County open.

All this said, I'm rooting for Booker, but I'm hoping either can defeat McConnell. It's complete bull about these pollling stations being closed.

OT: Democratic Primary Thread

NY12 will be an interesting race. Suraj Patel’s a clown and a creep, but he’s racked up around 38% of the vote so far. I think Maloney will win just because of the progressive vote split, but not bad so far.
