¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is what it is. But is there any way to anticipate this from year to year, or is it just a crapshoot?

(The sim learning curve is real!)

The law of averages usually balances the weird anomalies for teams :dontknow: The teams that should be good defensive teams are. But the components are weird AF.

There will always be anomalies with in statistics. You would need manual intervention to eliminate certain outliers (which should be done in any bell curve analytics) which I don't think they do from what I've seen. But like you said generally the good defensive players/teams get respect.

DEF evaluation even in real life is tough to use one statistic to properly evaluate it. Look if you used defensive rating Wemby would be ranked behind 200 players...that isn't realistic. If you used DEF rating Isiah Joe would be a top 10 defender based on last year. So either you build ratings objectively or subjectively...but you will have outliers both ways.

I think the Hendricks outlier simply has to be due to his limited 3 game sample size. Also I doubt they build anyone above 100...this could just be a product that he got put on the right team with the right players and sky rocketed his ranking.

For example you look at the best defenders Caruso/AD/Chet/Kessler/JJJ/Jdub/Wemby/the thompson twins/draymond/Daniels all got big time defensive ratings. I would say that checks out. But the focus seems on the few outliers.

I understand there will be always be anomalies. But I'd like to understand to what extent the anomalies can be predicted. Do we know what the inputs are? And are the same guys wildly over/underrated year after year, or is it always a fun surprise? :D

Reed is going to be awesome. I think we both did well in that deal.

It's usually a fun surprise. One season I had Elfrid Payton putting up near all star numbers. Another year Moses Brown did. Early in our play, Kenneth Faried had an 80% FG or something. There are some indicators though.

Avdija was such a steal. It's crazy how many people questioned the deal on Portland's side because of timelines or whatever. I always figure if you can get a good player, get a good player. People said the same when the Knicks signed Brunson.

No love for Mobley… After some poor ratings in the Valley, this is likely the only thing I will have to cheer for this season

How do they figure Craig Porter JR is one of the smartest players in the league? He barely played up until this season.

Maybe more to the point... how do they figure RJ is

I love the idea of Deuce having the best handle in the game.

Good thing IQ doesn't really matter at all from what I have seen. I think Jokic had one of the lowest IQs last year. It was like the lowest on my team. Didn't seem to impact him at all.
