If you can't isolate the 2019 pick as the clear centerpiece of the deal then it's a different story.

the only way you can do that it to give up the cap space. and then it becomes 2 things you give up. an ad trade is very costly.

Totally agree. In an ideal world I'd wait until the summer.

At the same time this is a high stakes game of poker where the Knicks have their best chance of coming away with franchise altering players by the end of the summer AND landing one now will likely help the recruitment of a second AND landing one now will f*ck over multiple other franchises. A lot can go wrong between now and then, and (unless Perry legitimately has been told) nothing is guaranteed. There will be plenty of other summers in the future where there is no elite/generational talent available. I would totally understand striking on this while it's there is the price is very high but still reconcilable.

This Barnes trade might bite us in the ass.

1) One legitimate organization (Macs) has entered the max contract convo (they now have 32 to 37 mil in cap space) = more competition

2) If they end up using that cap space nicely, those 2021 and 2023 picks will not be pretty for us

What other deal netted 2 first rounders, a young player and cleared room?

So how did we get ripped off? Injured KP is worth way more than healthy Tobias?

Not to mention we got a better first rounder and we cleared worse contracts

Harris and Boban are on expiring contracts. Clippers didn’t shed any long term money like we did. Their young player is Shamet, ours is better in Smith. The philly 2020 pick is sure to be 25-30. Miami pick the one good asset they received. Pretty silly to compare the haul Clippers for versus what we got in KP trade.

Now they’ve gotten one twin and are going to get the other twin from Boston. That would suck.

So...KP is a BIG ? and thats the bottom-line- I wouldn't have given him a 158 million dollar guaranteed contract-
without injury clauses...Still would do the trade and party after...
