Old news, but still....damn. Hornets should have took the deal and run
The Celtics offered the 16th pick, No. 15 (acquired in a prearranged contingency deal with the Atlanta Hawks), one unprotected future Brooklyn pick, and a future first-rounder from either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves.
Some members of the Hornets' front office wanted to do the deal with the Celtics, but Michael Jordan preferred Kaminsky over first rounders outside the lottery.

Good for Mike. Still sticking it to the Celtics.

yeah thats just stupid. The difference between Kaminsky and Bobby Portis is not 3 future 1st round picks. Especially if one of those picks is an unprotected brooklyn pick which could be a lottery pick.

Re: July 1st Free Agency Begins - Catchall thread
With all the things people say about Phil, he has not made a trade offer this crazy. Some of us may grip that he gives the minimum to the wrong long shot player, but he has not even thought of screwing us up again long term.
Winslow had some great stuff written about him before the draft, but it will take a while for him to prove any of it was true. Lots of people said he had to choose Russell, if available. So far, glad he didn't. As far as the draft goes, he made a silk purse out of a sow's ear and turned TH Jr into JG. This draft really did a lot to help us at 2 positions. I think we added some good players instead of landing Gasol. Given the choice, I think spending all our cap space on one of the other big names would have been a real mistake. We tried that so many times in the past, and look where it got us. So it seems now we are (close to) being a good team, one superstar away from being a contender.
Compare this to the Celtics and the Hornets (haha Winslow).

If we sign Boozer I hope one of you guys can shoot me with a shotgun, rip my head off with an axe, piss on my corpse and create an enormous pyre with gasoline while wearing a Carlos Boozer mask so that when you upload the video on internet maybe someone will kill him by rage

B: J. Green | Donte | N. Clifford
B: Herb | K. Oubre | B. Hield

Good. What are picks if they don't net you a superstar?
And no, I don't think Kaminsky will EVER be a superstar.

The clippers should buy out Crawford so we can offer him the 2.8 MLE
He be a great addition to our guard rotation.
We need another solid guard on this team !

#15
#16
2016 brooklyn pick
Future Memphis pick
For Kaminsky at #9 ?
That was a great haul for the #9 pick.
Should've pulled the trigger on that
Still value at 15&16
I'm sure the issue was they didn't really scout outside the top 10

If Phil pulled that off, I would put a put a paper bag over my head, paste a picture of Jeannie on it, poke a hole through the mouth, and give Phil the best BJ he's ever had in his entire life.[/quote]

Aside from the issues that the Celtics never expressed interest in Melo and Melo isn't going to waive his NTC for Boston...sure

Lets not forget - every other team in position to accept this deal turned it down, too. It wasn't just MJ. Riley turned it down, as did others. This story hasn't died because Ainge is trying desperately to spin the "stupidity" of others instead of the reality that the majority of this situation is because he misjudged pick value drastically and is sitting on less than he thought.
Instead of trying to mock Jordan exclusively, we should also be coming to the realization that all the maneuvering, trading, and stockpiling that Ainge has done and been sweated for has amounted to nothing even remotely significant at this point. I mean, the guy literally tried to cash his chips in and was denied. He couldn't even get the 9th/10th pick in the draft for the years of work at accumulation.
For the past 3 years Ainge has basically done everything that a lot of the people lamenting the lack of a "full-rebuild" here clamor for, and despite some drooling from message boards over the amount of picks he's acquired, there's essentially nothing of major value...at this point.

Ainge is providing much of the stupid I speak of.
Previously, Ainge was able to find success when some of his assets reached salable maturity. Jefferson looked like a stud. Gomes value was high. He had a known top 5 pick to trade. He's selling low and needs to invest himself in his own process, like he did previously. Now, he's looking to speed it up. Eventually, it appears he'll be desperate enough to give up the boat for nothing. It would be worth getting in on, imo.

Right.....because every other team in the league would just offer him nothing so he'd have to settle for 2.8?
