I wish Phil or even Dolan had the authority to ban Twitter and Instagram. Nothing good comes out of it.

I read it was non-guaranteed so essentially a training camp deal...not sure if that changed, but I figured a non-guaranteed makes at least a semblence of sense.

Brother got dumped by Sharapova, he needs a bone of some sort thrown at him or he could end up hurting himself.

Dont care if its guaranteed or non guaranteed, if I knew we will cut him anytime we want. Have a feeling we wont no matter what happens tho, hope its just a camp invite then

Do we go after 1 more guy or leave a roster spot open?
No reason to leave a roster spot open unless Phil wants to save Dolan a couple bucks.
The one recent (post-draft) comment Fisher made was about still looking to find a guard to push the ball (pace). I know he's not great but I'm kind of hoping they are working on some type of deal for Norris Cole. He is still sitting out there unsigned as a restricted free agent and it seems a tad odd to me.
Coles isn't great but if we could somehow swing some type of deal for him I think his energy and defense would really be a big plus for our PG position. While I respect Calderon for a solid career he offers nothing today in terms of an ability to get to the lane/rim and or defensively.
We've added some nice defensive pieces this summer -- Coles would be another small step in that direction -- in terms of making us a tough defensive minded team that competes every night.
Not sure if Pelicans in win-now mode might have an interest in Calderon as a back-up or what we'd have to pay Coles to make that type of deal work. Don't think we have much else we can offer Pelicans for him right now outside of Early/2nd round picks.

Re: July 1st Free Agency Begins - Catchall thread
The Knicks have enough guards on guaranteed contracts that it doesn't concern me they are too thin, guards who can come in and be a bench player are the easiest to find in the NBA, especially 2s. I have some interest in seeing what Saunders has to bring, if he makes the roster he would be the 6th guard after Cald, Gallow, Grant, Afflalo and Sasha. Wes is big enough to defend 2s and he has PG skills so it will be interesting to see what he can do in camp and preseason.
I don't know how the Knicks would get Cole without making a trade to do it.

I'm starting to think that he'll probably never ask for a trade. I think that he'll finish out his contract and then go ring chasing when he'll no longer be able to demand a max contract

Yeah - I was talking about a trade for Cole.
I do have some interest in Saunders as a SG though - not a PG. I did go back and watch some of his limited play with Utah in Vegas and he likes to pass the ball and can get to the basket - good size.

I have never been that much of a fan of Afflalo but even I am surprised at the amount of disdain so many have for him. Is he really that bad? I know people point out his defense slipped from his great play early in his career and he had a down season last year with being on two different teams during it. Although two season's ago he was a 18.2/3.6/3.5 on 46%fg/42%3pt guy after already having quite few very good seasons so I don't see why people are acting like he's a scrub or not even a capable starter.

Even a reduced Afflalo will be an upgrade at the 2 over Shump, Smith and THJ, simply because he isn't an idiot and can make a layup.

I don't really get the scorn. Much of the issue I had with him was how he looked, he's got those huge shoulders and gangly arms, a bit undersized, he looks more like a wrestler than a shooting guard. Although, his game isn't as rough as he looks, he's got a nice post game, can pass, shoot the 3 and defend a bit. He definitely is an upgrade over the three stooges the Knicks had manning the 2 last season.

Afflalo is a legit SG. Shumpert was inconsistent and lacked certain basic skills and JR was a mess.

Affalo fits in well with the triangle (he can post, shoot) and has good chemistry next to Melo. Seems to be a good character vet and is not a dummy. He also really wants to be here. He may not be a lock down defender, but I don't think he is a liability either. A definite upgrade at SG. A solid starter that can hold his own

Shump was a shooting guard who could not shoot. As a defender, he had his moments, but he wasn't very consistent. JR was on his way to driving the entire team insane. "Afflalo is a legit SG." This means, he's instantly better for us than the guys we traded.
