With the amount of guys that are going to be FA again. I don't see how these top tier players don't go for 400-500 again. It's going to happen

Most teams will be focused on resigning their top players though so I doubt it

im sure they will be focused but with a vast majority of the market set to be FA's and teams that have 400-500 to spend that didn't have superstars might make it tough for a team to sign 2 of them. I don't doubt if you have 1 the team with the bird rights will probably be able to bring them back. But if you have 2...both becoming FA's the same year which is a lot of teams...it will be challenging to pay both while being able to field a roster.

If teams knew the rules about extending rookies the first year, more teams would've loaded up on draft picks. Guys like Brook Lopez, Goran Dragic, Serge Ibaka, Jae Crowder etc were going at the price that Morant will be making. It has nothing to do with staggering contracts, this is pretty much MLB levels of extortion of young players.

I agree this rookie extension are dirt cheap and I did bring this up when the rule change was brought up, if you hit on a late first rounder it's less then 5 percent of cap for 6 years..

Maybe a max contract extension that would start at what the highest paid player in the game currently makes (around $500/yr)? If your willing to pay that you can re-sign your guy as long as its within the cap rules ?

Almost every team has a top player they will need to resign at a high price though. So I don’t expect any steals, 2 at most.

thats with anything though. If you hit on a stud in real life you have these guys for super cheap contracts as well. If you draft horribly though even with late 1st rounders they instantly become bad contracts because you can have cheap vet bench guys you could get for cheaper than say the 21st pick...which comes with a $20 price tag. that isn't cheap consider the chances that rookie will be productive in the sim in his first 2-3 years is not likely.

I agree, I don't think there will be any steals...I just think there will be so many teams with a ton of $$$ that this idea that people wont throw tons of money at potential FA's to steal them I don't believe is accurate.

Maybe but I don’t see much teams doing that cause most of us have to resign players first before trying to steal. Unless that team has nobody to resign and is only planning on stealing lol

This. Also, many GMs have made moves based on the fact that the numbers for a certain player would change when their contracts expired. I would never have broken up SGA, Sabonis, and Isaac if I could have extended them at the prices I had them or a little more.
