Coaches and players don't tank. It's their reputation at stake. They can walk or be traded anytime. They dont really care too much about the future of the franchise.
Besides, its not interesting at all helping the team to get his cheap replacement in the draft.
Front Office might tank getting bad players or build a bad fitting roster. Or pushing to load manager players especially players recovering from injuries.

In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

Shouldn’t the Kings get the pick?

Exactly. Why would Adam Gase care about the future? Why would Jeff Hornacek or Mike Miller want to develop players at the expense of their careers? Or hell, why wouldn't Steve Mills and Scott Perry sign a bunch of random vets after losing out on the big fish in a humiliating fashion? The question, then, is why are organizations so tied to a bunch of bums who aren't going to be here for the long term and have shown nothing.
Hence, pulling a Knicks

Do they want Randle? Otherwise, not sure how this works out with Randle and Obi already here...

Lauri is finesse Randle.
Both should be coming off the bench imo.

Nah this was wrong -- it was a S&T so the Kings had to be involved, but it was their own free agent so it's different.

Re: Around the NBA - Offseason Chatter
What would it take for the Knicks to accomplish in a single shortened season to be attractive enough for a star FA to sign with them next summer? Play in tourney? Playoffs? Win a series? I know there will be no tank talk or even an inkling in the back of the minds of the coach or players they will be full on playing to win but is just the hope for star FA worth a .500 season considering the crop of draftees in the lottery?
I mean, let's say IQ looks the part of potentially a 2nd or 3rd star in his rookie season and RJ takes a step forward looking like another 2nd or 3rd star with guys like Mitch, Knox and Obi looking like solid complementary pieces around them. This might add to the attraction of the team because it means Thibs is doing real work establishing a new culture and there's some nice pieces in place already.
Many fans want to see them get a lottery ticket shot at one of these prospects to maybe get another young stud before they try to snag a FA star to top the roster off but would you rather have an 8th seed with a 1st round exit instead meaning it results in a pick at about 15 and one from the Mavs at let's say mid 20s but more importantly taking them out of the lottery and no chance at a top pick?
For me the ideal scenario would be all of those player projections I mentioned earlier manifest but it results in a play in tourney that they don't win so they still get the lottery ticket. Then the potential disgruntled stars that are eyeing someplace to go see the Knicks on the rise and doing it right so maybe want to be a part of that. Then some bouncy ball magic to make that pick a top 5 would be a true signal the Knicks fortunes have changed.
