Udoka hates Sengun

There’s a 3 way to be made where:

Sengun
Randle
Mikal
Eason
McBride
DFS
Picks

Can make everyone happy.

I’d kill to get Sengun AND Bridges here, though, relatively speaking. I realize it’s bs of course.

Big fan of Melton. This would be a good signing

Is he good defender?

According to the numbers he’s a great defender

Knicks having non tax mle means one of 3 things.
Og walked, ihart walked or decline bojan option.

Knicks have access to the MLE if they don't ink I-Hart and OG at the start of free agency. Once they're inked, the MLE becomes unavailable.

I don't see the Knicks using their full MLE, anyway. Depending on OG's numbers (you can kind of guess I-Hart's numbers), they'll be very close to the 2nd apron and my understanding is that they want to avoid that as much as possible. Honestly and unfortunately, Bojan might be a cost cutting contract if they're not willing to wait for the until next season for cap relief.

thats now how the cba works, once you use the non tax mle, you are hard capped at the tax level, you cant sign players after using the non tax MLE to go over the tax line.

see for example this season, the knicks were hardcapped when they signed donte.

you can sign players to the tax MLE then sign players to go over the tax line.

A team becomes hard-capped at the first tax apron if it makes any of the following moves:
Acquires a player via sign-and-trade.
Uses the bi-annual exception.
Uses more than the taxpayer portion (up to two years, with a starting salary of $5MM) of the mid-level exception.
Takes back more than 110% of the salary it sends out in a trade (when over the cap).

My methodology might be off, but the Knicks still have access to MLE. I don't want to go too much into the weeds before coffee, but the catalysts is OG opting in. But every thing I've read says the Knicks can have access to the MLE.

yes they have access to MLE, but once you use it you are hard capped.

OG opting in will give them breathing room under the hard cap. OG (19)+ihart (17)+ bogan(19) + MLE should be enough to stay under the hard cap

but lets be real, OG isnt opting in.

Never say never. Opt-in and extend is doable and he'll still get the targeted 35/40. It'll just be a season later.

Just saw Oubre's name here. No way should he get another vet minimum. He is deserving of at least 8-12 million.

I do like Lonnie Walker, Kornet, DSJ, Morris twins.

OG opts in and extends... iHart extends... we sign Melton to 3-4 years via MLE... we keep Bogs for bench depth and a feb deadline trade... vibes... remain... immaculate.

- max he would be eligible for extension after opting in would be 4 year 115ish. not happening
- unless you mean sign next offseason, become free agent next summer then sign a new contract. I dont see that happening, with his injury history to take that chance.

OG will decline option this year and become a free agent, that 100%
if the knicks want melton (or use mle on someone else) they can just waive bojan. (assuming OG and ihart stay)

We accumulated all those picks for a reason. I can't see us not making a big move. At minumum for a guy like Bridges who is literally a perfect Thibs system fit and completes the Nova picture.

Brunson has firmly established himself as a top 5-8 player in the entire NBA. Players will want to team with him at this point.

Who is the guy we go after hardest is the biggest question.

I think we’re going to let go Bogdanovic in FA. We won’t use him in any trade scenarios. We’ll use the Bog savings to resign our guys and maybe sign Melton

We're looking for the "right" move at the right time. That time might be this off-season or it might be at the upcoming Feb '25 trade deadline or even next off-season. It takes two teams to tango.

I'm hoping we can hold onto Bogs until the Feb '25 trade deadline as a trade chip and somehow maneuver the cap to still be able to get a guy like Melton... we pulled DDV out of our azzes last season

You are right. It does not make any sense for OG to opt in.

Maybe he chooses the Knicks for the minimum to pursue a second career in modeling.
