When you guys say you're cool with some of your liberties being taken away, what are you actually saying? As in you're cool with the government monitoring your every e-mail, text, phone call, and what not? Cmon man. It doesn't matter if you have nothing to hide. F*ck that.

Slippery slope for sure, but IMO if the government needs to tap into means of communication to cut off terrorist activities, they should be able to. I have nothing to hide. At the very least, they should be able to tap into people who they are suspicious of (in any way - the person themselves, through connections, activities, flights, etc).

When people are afraid they are more likely to willing relinquish their civil liberties. There is a reason you see so much negativity being shoved down your throats by the media giants, particularly Fox news. The Sky is falling...

I am a registered republican because almost all my economical beliefs as someone who works in finance align with that side. But I am very socially liberal. I am also religious (catholic) but also don't 100% believe in every agenda the catholic church preaches.

Being to far on one side is never good, you need to be balance. My whole thought process when it comes to me being socially liberal is why do I get the right to tell someone who they should marry or how am I suppose to tell a women to not keep a baby they can't support or don't want (assuming its done in a timely fashion approved by doctors).

What I'm trying to say is everything doesn't need to be one side or the other. But apparently the powers that be are so wrapped in democrats this and republicans that..at the end of the day nothing productive gets done.

How do you like Gary Johnson of the libertarian party? Seems to align with what you're looking for. I think he's going to be surprisingly competitive

I would vote for him over the other two. I agree with a lot of his line of thinking. Of course everything I won't 100% agree with like he wants no restrictions on guns (I want them on assault rifles). He doesn't believe in the death penalty...I do.

But those are small compared to the big ones where he believes most republicans are fiscally conservative and really that is the biggest importance to them while they should come together and not involve government with most social issues which I agree with.

He seems like the lesser of two evils between Hillary (god help us) and Trump (can't keep his mouth shut).

I said before this post it was a slippery slope. But unfortunately a lot of civil liberties were created before all this advancement in technology. LIke I said I don't know a great way to go about it and like you said it could be very tricky and difficult which is probably why it wouldn't happen but maybe its just my personality as long as its done the right way.

Personally I don't give two sh*ts if someone is monitoring my emails or my message board posts about fantasy football trades with a buddy or talking about wanting to rebuild and trade Carmelo Anthony or talking to my brother overseas about how his job is going and how I'm doing. If it allows them to catch joe shmoe down the street from planning a terrorist attack on the local elementary school...I'm cool with it. They just need to be transparent about it. To all this freaking sneaking around. Up front about what they are doing and there findings and I'm cool.

I 100% wont try to sway your opinion and totally respect your right to privacy...but I guess I don't give a sh*t because I know what I am doing is right and anything I can do to prevent (whatever little part the government would be asking to do) I wouldn't mind I guess. Shoot me :dontknow:

its not being "afraid" for me. And whether people think I am not being Patriotic enough so be it. I love this country and what it has provided me and I wish to be absolutely nowhere else. I want to live my life and protect my family and be happy. Outside of that other things don't bother me as much...oh well

I'm just saying times have changed, if there is a way to prevent some of this stuff before it happens...I'm just saying I would be open to at least hearing what type of proposals people would have.

The Email Monitoring etc won't do much. The same thing will happen how **** happens in the streets. If you are serious enough, you can find ways around the moinitoring. So called terror cells communicated plans well before the Internet era. There can never be enough monitoring to keep these things from happen 100%. Right now, any person can just wake up one day and say **** it, and they won't be enough monitoring in the world to stop it before it happens.

This is exactly what the government wants....Scare you into something, then take away what you want the most. Its covert tactics 101. Create a situation a people will voluntary do it...no force allowed. Then once you realize that its still not safe, you can never get back the power you gave up.

The government is already monitoring everything though. You just want them to admit it 8-). They investigated the killer twice in 2013 and 2014, but it didn't lead them anywhere concrete. Not sure what else you expect to happen, besides infringe on normal people's privacy and make everyone walk on eggshells with everything they say. We already have the always pleasant SJWs for that job .

I'm way more wary of the government than you and KT. I love this country, but not the government. Most Americans feel the same way, which is why candidates like Trump and Bernie got so popular. Our freedoms are the last thing we have left, and they've already been on the chopping block for years.

I need to look into everything more, but I believe simple solutions like enforcing legal immigration and restricting the use of high powered rifles should be enough to curb these attacks, without spying on everyone. It's never going to be perfect, since the USA is just more of a target than other countries, but despite what you're saying you really don't want to go down the spying road my friend. America is what it is because of liberty, and you're very naive if you think the government would just stop at monitoring your fantasy trades.

Not going to touch on hunting (which I don't think is morally right) and self defense (don't houses with guns end up needing to use them more than those without...?), but why are you not comfortable with the government and police being the only ones with guns? I'm legitimately curious, because out of all the things I'm afraid of in this world, the government or police rising against the people is probably the last thing on my list of things to fear.

Regardless if you think hunting is morally right or wrong, people do hunt to eat and/or feed there families through trapping and etc. I think most farming practices are far worse than someone hunting to feed themselves.
I don't know the numbers you are referencing in regards to the self defense point but I think one should be able to own a handgun to protect one's family. As far as me not being comfortable with the gov being the only ones with guns...(and keep in mind I'm a mostly left leaning person) it is the thing you are least afraid of until it's not. The govt has given citizens NO reason to trust them in the last 20 + years. I imagine many fascist ideas in the govt have been squashed over the history of our country because the citizens are armed. I think gun laws need to be completely revamped but all out banning of guns is foolish imo. Give the US govt an inch and they will take a mile and it has been proven time and time again. Not to mention that if any type of successful hostile takeover of our military were to ever happen, there is not a thing any country in the world could do to put it back in the hands of the people. I am a little disturbed by how easily people want to forfeit civil liberties that go beyond even gun rights. I think Sanders has the most logical stance on guns. I know some of my concerns are crazy/tin foilish but the world is a crazy place.

You're more than entitled to your opinion :D I'm not gonna try to change it - I was just curious why you felt that way.

I don't think the government is a picture perfect entity, but I'm not someone who thinks they try to hurt the american people. I don't believe in any conspiracy theories (besides maybe aliens having made contact with us), so I'm perfectly fine with the ban on guns and I wouldn't fear any government ramifications from it.

Agree to disagree, though. Thanks for answering my question.

So now Isis are not "true muslims"? Cmon man. Cmon . Talk about side steppin. Just because they don't fit the narrative of the "religion of peace" now they aren't true muslims. Ha. What are they then? You said "not even radicals do anything during Ramadan". Isis are radicals, and they are muslims.

This is the same argument feminists use. "THOSE feminists arent REAL feminists!". The ideology attracts and breeds these people. Just because not every muslim is a terrorist and not every feminist is a man-hating nutjob doesn't mean their ideologies don't produce higher than average crazies. The funny thing is all these feminists and SJWs support Islam because they see them as an oppressed minority... while most of them hate women. You can't make this stuff up. Everything is obviously the white man's fault.

Islam is a problem that needs to be looked into. That's all people are saying. Their ideology runs counter to our country. Christians have done terrible things in history themselves, but it's not in the same universe as Islam right now. The Westboro Baptist Church hasn't shot up any gay night clubs yet, despite hating f@gs.

So basically your lumping Muslims who are fasting and who work 9 to 5's in the same boat as cats who want to blow up ****. Basically the NYC cab driver is the same dude as the an ISIS solider. The Black Muslim who sells bean pies and news papers, is the same as an ISIS cat.

Don't you realize this is a NEW way of thinking for these so called "muslims"

If your a Christian or catholic...I should put you in the same boat as the people who go out and rape and pillage nations...I mean they were being true to the religion and all.

Based on this Logic, The ones who don't want to be attacking people are the FAKE muslims.

It would have taken you 5 seconds to search for that Isis quote my man, and it was all over the internet a few weeks ago. Now you're all over the place putting words in my mouth.

I'm calling a spade a spade. They're ALL muslims. You can't pick and choose who is "true" or not. Some are just more radical than others, and Islam happens to have the most radicals at this time. Going on about Christians hundreds of years ago doesn't matter TODAY. There are radical Christians too, but you can't seriously be putting them in the same boat.

I am not religious BTW. I think all religion is a problem (not only Islam) since it so easily is taken to extremes. Buddha is cool with me though. Islam just so happens to be the worst at this time. Denying and deflecting isn't going to change that.

ISIS prob makes up less than 1% of the Islamic population, but because of the Media, they control how the public sees 'muslims'.

Cool Kids seems to be the only cat that understands the difference.

Come again? How does that change anything? They're just radical Muslims. Many people are so terrified to call them what they are.

So with this logic, were all the Christians you keep bringing up "true Christians"? Or are they exempt too?

Yup. Muslims that aren't a part of the cause are fair game in their attacks. In some ways, they particularly want to provoke those that adhere to Islam but don't acknowledge the legitimacy of their Caliphate. I'm pretty certain that there are higher ups in Daesh on record hoping that Trump will win so that they can better recruit. They want inter-religious tension to prove their point.

Very exclusive club, eh?
