this is a philosophical argument more than anything. i would rather take someone with higher upside potential even if he also has higher bust potential. i'm not trying to hit an easy double with a top 10 pick, i'm swinging to go deep and if i miss so be it.

Just looking at the 2020 allstars...

Kawhi, Harden, Chris Paul, Mitchell, Lowry, Siakam, Sabonis, Westbrook

Ja is the most recent one if you consider him as a star too

Oh yeah, that's right too. In general, I don't think it's bad. A lot of Sophmores are still young and can be good.

But I get your reasoning for sure. Knicks need star players so we gotta take risks

In general, I agree with swinging for the fence when we have the chance. But figuring out and identifying who has upside can be tricky. It's not always that straight forward.

It's cause he's very flawed. I see why people are intrigued with him and he can be a star but there's also a chance he can end up as Brandon Jennings. Maybe if we had a better development coaching staff then I would feel a lot better taking him. Knicks never found a way to make weaknesses of our flawed players minimized as possible and letting them play to their absolute strengths. So it's probably better for the Knicks to take a safer player with less flaws but has similar upside. I will still root for Cole if we get him though.

Right, his strengths are just not that "strong" and his flaws are many.

Besides Cole Anthony there really isn't a PG out there with that type of upside.

it isn't. but sometimes it's easier to identify who doesn't.

Cole himself has described as not being a true point guard. Not sure why some of you guys seem married to the idea of picking him.

I would not mind the following:

Draft Haliburton
Sign Jerami Grant
Dump Randle

Go with a young, superb defensive squad: Mitch + Grant + RJ + Frank + Haliburton

Use our remaining assets to fill out the bench. Trade Knox, DSJr, whatever.

At least we'd be able to hang our hats on something, which hasn't been the case for decades.... Defense + Youth.

The player you have doubts about that ends up proving you wrong. Doesn’t even have to be a top pick just anybody out of the draft.

Hawks pretty much took a role player in hunter just last draft with the 4th pick and it’s worked out for them I mean the team still sucks but you can at least see the vision being built there.

But at the same time they already have their star in trae young and probably more focused in building around him.

On the Knicks end we have Barret and MItchell as our main pieces. But I don’t think either fits the bill as being that guy. Maybe RJ can be a all star but I think he still needs to show more first.

True PG? No interest in discussing these phrases in the year 2020, we are passed that. These are the same recycled arguments year after year

In todays nba lead guards have to be a scoring threat. Look at dame, steph, westbrook, kyrie, fox, Mitchell, kemba, ect.

Tibs grew with the baby bulls; he gets hate because he couldnt turn two talented loosers into winners . Kat lost and wiggins lost before tibs, they lost with tibs, and they lost after tibs.

So in thst equation who was at fault? The two loosers that lost before, during, and after tibs?

Or tibs?
