Two paths knicks will take: pull off a trade for a star, Beal or Dame or sign vets to 1 year deals again to keep space for next summer..which to me is why you haven’t heard the knicks as front runners for Ball etc..just IMO..they aren’t investing multi year big money deals in players that aren’t stars..WWW was brought in for stars.

I get this. I'm not into advanced analytics - maybe Duncan makes a lot more tough/contested 3's. It could be valuable.

I'm just saying one of the Knicks issues was playing a shoot only guy next to RJ, who is NOT adept at creating his own shot. Right now.

I'm just going to address the elephant in the room. RJ is a really nice complimentary player at the moment but he makes creating a good roster a little challenging.

Hence Fournier, who I'm not necessarily advocating for, would be a better fit.

Let's put it another way. If RJ had Fourniers ability now (and I think he will meet and exceed it, but it will take 3 more years), then you could add Duncan Robinson.

Otherwise, team has same issue it had before but with better shooting, but also no PG currently in existence on roster proven at breaking down the defense. Or even a backup SG who is decent at it. I guess those positions could be addressed though.

Doesn’t free agency begin at 4? And if your expectations is to sign 1 year deals on vets, there will be no reason for anyone to implode..lol

My dream offseason additions of Derozan and Ball is close to happening!

Just imagine a big three of Julius, Demar, Lonzo  All three can playmake and defend at the highest level.
Julius is the king around the basket, Demar is the king of the midrange and Lonzo is a lights out 3pt shooter :rocking:
Plus Lonzo comes with the bonus of the marketing expertise of his father; I think the current regime values that a lot.

Ok maybe this doesnt work out the way I envision it to... but a man can dream, right?

I get your point but Perry’s Orlando connections gotta chill.

One-year deals are not my expectation with $51 million in cap space. But who knows? We need a bunch of players to fill out the roster. Really, nothing would surprise me.

Right.

Bringing back Dougie McBuckets back is also perhaps a less expensive option though he won’t come cheap either.

McBuckets is a no for me dawg. He lost his jumper at the garden. He does fit Thibs token white guy sniper who runs around.

Without many options, it’s time to adjust those expectations

He’s been solid for the Pacers. He’s a career 40% shooter from 3. He shot 39% from 3 last season but improved his 2-point FGs to 54%.

What I dont understand is...

They don't appear to be signing a max cat or 2 max cats.. rather role players on good contracts, which is fine.

But why are they nickel and diming this cap space figure to maximize every dollar. Macri reported they could've moved to 15 if they took on Chandler Hutchinson at $4mil a year. Didn't seem like they were in on Bledsoe either to get to 10.

Why are they being so precise but have nothing to spend it on?
Curious to see how this plays out.

I tend to agree.

But, you can position yourself correctly and still not have it come together.

There was nothing wrong, in my opinion, how they managed the draft.
I think punting the pick #19 and getting Rokas was more about attractive assets for potential trades than cap saving.
I'm wary about the narrative "all moves were made to maximize cap space"
I mean, yeah, they were, but that's one of the things that Aller does.
So, sure, Rose gave Aller marching orders that cap space is a priority, but it doesn't have to mean there is very specific things lined up, that if they don't happen, it's a failure.

What the failure would be for me, is that Leon\WWW don't have good contacts/relationships/intel.
And that is a troublesome thought not just for this offseason, but moving forward at all.
Their whole thing is about having the inside info

But making cap room and picking up cost free assets that are attractive to other teams? That stuff is good and well done at any time.

I did mind punting on #19 b/c I thought Keon Johnson was a high-level talent that has all-star potential (similar to Jaylen Brown to me)

didn't mind the Rokas pick b/c he could be useful in a future trade, esp. if he boosts his stock playing for Barcelona

I liked getting Grimes and McBride. I'm confident that both will be solid pro's....just think that w/ 2 1sts they should've capitalized and gone upside AND safe

my issue tho is that w/ the way they've been acting like a team that thinks its a contender....we're not and getting talent still needs to be priority #1. this FO is star hunting in FA and trades again, but since none are available, they should've treated the draft like an opportunity to be aggressive

I'm already tired of people crying over what Keon Johnson might become. Sorry to unload on you here.

They had a good draft. They maintained (punting 19) the ability and improved on it - slightly - to make trades in the future (adding Rokas and that Detroit 2nd rounder)

In and of itself, that was fine.

Now they need to win the FA/trade period.
Not only because we'd like to see the Knicks actually get better, but just about to tread water, for f*cks sake.
That's the price of 1 year deals.

The team wasn't all that great and now they have to replace rotation spots starting 1, starting 3, backup 1, backup 2 and backup 5
And try to get better while doing it.

Agree to disagree on the draft. I don't see how they improved on #19....they traded it for a heavily protected 1st

the Rokas trade was different, it was #32 for #34 and #36, which I thought was incredible value....kudos to the Knicks FO: got the guy they probably would've taken at 32 + picked a nice draft and stash player who can be useful in trades

They added 2 solid players, but I don't see as much upside w/ those guys as I did (or most analysts) w/ Keon or Jalen. they had the potential to get 1 of those guys AND Grimes and McBride

....yet they decided they wanted additional cap flexibility. and for what? DeRozan and Schroder?

We did this last year too - sat on a bunch of cap space and whiffed on opportunities to pickup assets. It’s as if the part of the organization that is responsible for creating cap space has no idea what the part responsible for using cap space is doing.

yeah, I don't completely understand this FO either

we had surplus cap space last season that could've been used to take on contracts w/ picks attached....why not do that instead of punt on #19 and move down from #21 to gain a future 1st and a future 2nd

and seeing all these rumors, and the top players are connected elsewhere. and I don't really want DeRozan, Schroder or Fournier. solid players but I question fit w/ DeRozan (and age) and the other 2 want more $ for too many years....would rather keep space for Beal/LaVine

the FO has to be operating with the belief that they are going to acquire 1 or 2 superstars this offseason. We all know its not happening and the quicker they move on from that pipedream the faster they can start making the right moves to push this team forward

I'm pretty sure the Knicks aren't target Lonzo because he wants too much money. IMO the odds of the Knicks signing Lonzo are about the same as them drafting Sharife Cooper, about 0%.

Schroder still looming, but I am hopeful that Mavs will take him.

Not sure how we do it, but I still would like to get Murray off the Spurs. I don't really want to give up future assets and something tells me that Hornets pick won't move the needle.
